Labor Day Safety: September 1
Every effort will be made to make this Labor Day Holiday a safe motoring experience.  Members of the Homewood Police Department will be working extra hours on dedicated Saturation Patrols and Safety Belt Enforcement Zones.  Their primary focus will be on impaired drivers, speeding vehicles and safety belt violators.   A zero tolerance approach will be in effect for those that choose to ignore good driving habits.  Remember to fasten your safety belts and drive defensively.  Have a great Labor Day Holiday!

In Illinois, 86 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes during the last five Labor Day holidays.  Statistics say 38 or 44 percent of these fatalities resulted from crashes involving a driver who had been drinking.

Last year in Illinois on the Labor Day weekend, 20 people lost their lives on Illinois roads.  Seven of those fatalities involved a driver who had been drinking.

In Illinois in 2006, NHTSA estimates 594 people died in alcohol-related crashes and 492 of those individuals died in crashes where the driver was at 0.08 BAC or above
Ordinance: Obstructing Public Passageway
A friendly reminder to use the sidewalks when you stroll the tree-lined streets of Homewood.  The Homewood Municipal Code (Sec. 70-57/Obstructing Public Passageway) forbids pedestrians from obstructing any public street, alley or other public passageway within the Village limits. Obstructing a public street, alley or other public passageway includes walking within the traffic flow portion of a roadway when a sidewalk is available, standing or laying on a roadway with no attempt being made to cross the roadway, or any other activity conducted on the roadway that could cause  disruption to the normal flow of traffic.  Click here to view Municipal Code Chapter 70:57, Obstructing Public Passageway.
