Power Outages & Storm Event
On Monday, August 4, storms hit Homewood leaving over 2,600 residents without power.  Trees and limbs were downed blocking major thoroughfares throughout the Village.  All week, departments worked to keep residents informed of power outages and restorations.  The Department of Public Works worked tirelessly to help Com Ed expedite restorations, mitigate flooding issues, and clear roadways and parkways of storm debris.  Public Works continues to chip branches and limbs from the storm.  As of Friday, August 8, Com Ed reports that all storm related outages have been restored in Homewood.  If you are still without electricity, call Com Ed directly at 1-800-334-7661.  Remember, Com Ed will not restore electricity to a house if the service connection on the house is damaged. You must contact an electrician to repair the damaged service connection before ComEd will restore electrical service to the house.
National Night Out
In spite of the heavy storms that ripped through Homewood on Monday, the Police Department continued its participation in National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5 at Irwin Park from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Families came out to Irwin to meet police officers, hop on a patrol motorcycles and squad cars, and eat dinner prepared by Homewood's Police Chief Larry Burnson.  There were games, raffles, and a giant inflatable bouncer for kids. Many of those who came out were without electricity and appreciated a place to keep the kids entertained.  View the National Night Out photo gallery from the Southtown Star.

Edy's Ice Cream Block Party Winner
Valarie Moore is a resident on Hart Drive who won an Edy's Ice Cream Block Party for her neighborhood after submitting an essay on living in Homewood.  Her essay described the close-knit way of living in Homewood and listed the numerous events and programs that keep residents in touch with one another.  Valarie received a complete kit from Edy's with block party games, invitations, and of course, ice cream. The Community Relations Commission helped serve ice cream and coordinated games for the children.  The Police, Fire, and Public Works departments brought out their heavy equipment and safety vehicles. Homewood's Block Party Program is an integral part of the community.  Learn more about the program.
