Weather Alerts |
|
Many communities have a tornado siren system that will be activated in the case of severe weather (Homewood has a siren system). If the sirens are activated for severe weather, seek shelter immediately and tune to any of the local radio or television broadcast news channels such as CBS 2, NBC 5, ABC 7, WGN 9, Fox 32 or WBBM AM 780 or WGN AM 720. Do not call 911 to find out the details.
There are two kinds of weather alerts that relate to severe weather, those are Watches and Warnings. A watch means conditions are favorable for a severe weather event, however nothing has been confirmed. A warning means there is an actual observed condition and you should seek immediate shelter in a basement, center hallway, bathroom or closet. In all cases though, stay away from windows.
