Homewood Receives Tree City USA Award |
|
Homewood has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, National Association of State Foresters, and the USDA Forest Service. This is the tenth year Homewood has received this national recognition. Homewood is also recipient of a Tree City USA Growth Award. Homewood has met the four standards to become a Tree City USA community: a tree board ( Homewood Tree Committee), a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program ( Tree Share Program), and an Arbor Day observance. "Tree City USA designation recognizes the work of (Homewood's) elected officials, staff and citizens who plant and care for the community forest. Trees are a vital component of the infrastructure in our cities and towns, and provide environmental and economical benefits," said John Rosenow, Chief Executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. The Homewood Department of Public Works manages many of the programs and projects recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation. Jim Tresouthick, Village Aborist and Supervisor of the Landscape and Maintenance Division is the staff liaison to the Tree Committee, an active group that promotes reforestation throughout the community. Jim also educates on issues such as the Emerald Ash Borer, and oversees the forestry programs of the Village. |
