Personnel Development & Training:  Community Development
Jerry Maicach, building inspector for the Village, attended the Colorado Educational Institute in Denver.  Jerry went through classes related to the various topics outlined in Homewood's building codes, which the Village adopted in 2003:  residential wood frame construction, exterior commercial wall systems, mixed-use construction, residential plan review, and basic structural concepts.  The residential plan review covered the application of the International Residential Code (IRC) for reviewing a single-family home.  The IRC is a comprehensive, stand-alone residential code that creates minimum regulations for one- and two-family dwellings of three stories or less. It brings together all building, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, energy and electrical provisions for one- and two-family residences. The IRC also provides a prescriptive approach (i.e., a set of measures) and a performance approach (i.e., energy modeling) for determining compliance.

Are you planning on remodeling this spring?  Make sure you are familiar with Homewood's building codes and permit requirements before you start.
