State Fire Marshal Honors Four Homewood Firefighters |
|
A trip to Springfield (IL) is in the works for four Homewood firefighters. FF/PMDs John Elashik, Matt Moran, part-time FF/EMT Matt Cervak and former part-time FF Mike Turner have been recognized by the Office of the State Fire Marshal for their actions at a fire last year.
On April 3, 2007, the firefighters were part of an engine company that responded to an extra-alarm fire in the 1400 block of Dixie Highway in Flossmoor. During fireground operations, FF/PMD Tom Gaskin fell from an interior balcony, injuring his arm. Elashik, Cervak, Turner and Moran were the crew that rescued Tom and removed him from the interior of the house. The crew was nominated for the awards by fellow FF/PMD Ryan Schneiter, and are to be recognized in Springfield on May 15th at the 15th annual Firefighting Medal of Honor Awards Ceremony and the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service.
Elashik, Cervak and Turner will each receive the Medal of Valor, and Moran will receive a Certificate of Recognition. Congratulations to the entire company!

Risk Management Ranked Outstanding |
|
The Village of Homewood participates with 72 other Chicagoland municipalities in a pool arrangement for the provision of risk management insurance. This pool goes by the name, IRMA, Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency.
The Village of Homewood was notified, by the Executive Board of IRMA, that its participation in 2007 ranked in Category 1, which is classified as Outstanding.
This ranking was made possible because of the commitment by various Village staff members to attend the necessary meetings and training events to keep abreast of risk management issues. Out of the 72 participating communities, only 24 ranked in Category 1 along with Homewood. |
