Dive Team Searches for Evidence in Lane Bryant Shooting |
|
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) 24 Dive Team was requested to search a retention pond at the Brookside Shopping Plaza across from the Lane Bryant store in Tinley Park (IL) for possible evidence recovery. Homewood divers Tim Cameron, Mike Bell and John Elashik met at the Tinley Police Department for a briefing and then assessed the dive area. Image: Dive Team Photo.
Wearing dry/mustang suits, designed for over-water and waterborne operations, the divers broke through two layers of ice and searched for evidence by hand. The search lasted for more than three hours. No evidence was found.
Homewood is an active member of the third Community Fire District, which serves 22 local departments. This MABAS district averages over 50 extra alarm incidents each year. The district also has inter-divisional response agreements with the second and fourth Districts in Illinois. In addition, Homewood maintains automatic response agreements with Hazel Crest, Glenwood, East Hazel Crest, and Flossmoor: Third District Chiefs' Association MABAS 24 INC. |
Homewood Showcased as a Great Place for Business |
|
Community Development Director Bill Ernat, Village Planner Beth Barron, Village Manager Mark Franz, and Village President Rich Hofeld attended the annual conference of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) at the Hyatt Regency (Chicago, IL).
Staff's objective was to showcase Homewood as a strong and viable community for business. The ICSC is the global trade association of the shopping center industry. Staff discussed development opportunities with shopping center owners, developers, managers, marketing specialists, investors, lenders, and retailers from all over the world. Information on available sites throughout Homewood, traffic counts, infrastructure, and zoning were provided to prospective business partners.
Village President Rich Hofeld was a guest panelist at the conference, discussing the relationship between local government and prospective developers.

Administrative Adjudication Program Underway |
|
Village departments are working together to launch the new administrative adjudication program. The primary goal of the administrative adjudication program is to facilitate zoning code violations, petty offenses and minor criminal offenses. A computer software program will assist in tracking all violations and court assignments. Municipal Systems Inc., a software development and consulting firm, has loaded the software on clerical computers within the Police Department and is scheduling training for staff. This is an exceptional service that will encourage compliance with property issues and allow for stricter fines to those found with repeat violations. |
