Celebrate America's independence Glenview style - with a parade, a dip in the pool (pool passes on sale now!), a round of golf, festive music, fireworks, a Broadway show or even a trip to the Farmer's Market! We've got lots of activities and events to fill up your weekend and the rest of your summer "to do" list, most just a short bike ride or walk away. So what are you waiting for? We'll see you this weekend in the parks and at the pools!

"2010... Remember When"

Glenview's Independence Day Celebration, July 5, 2010

Glenview's Independence Day celebrations are on the 5th of July this year. Join in on the fun at the 2010 Glenview Fourth of July festivities and be part of a Glenview tradition that builds memories for families and brings our community together for one glorious summer day of celebration and fun!

 
Children's Bike Parade, 11 am.
Add some patriotic flair to your bicycle and meet at the corner of Glenview Rd & Church St. by 10:30 am to help kick off this year's parade in style. Pre-registration not required. Bike helmets are encouraged. Sponsored by Cook County Commissioner Gregg Goslin and the Abington of Glenview.

 

Main Parade, 11:30 am. Over 100 floats, marchers, bands and groups are part of the lineup

for the 45th annual Independence Day Parade, which starts at the OLPH parking lot, travels west on Glenview Road, turns south on Harlem to Central, then marches west on Central to its ending point at Johns Park. Sponsored by Glenview State Bank.

Stay on the SafeSide!. This year's parade route will be lined on both sides in red . . . please be sure that your family, friends and neighbors stay on the SafeSide, behind the red line, to ensure your safety and the safety of the parade participants!

 

Twilight Show, 7:30 pm. Join us on the beautiful grounds of the Glenview Park Golf Club, 800 Shermer Rd! The 100-piece North Shore Concert Band entertains with patriotic favorites and marches. Stay for the thrilling fireworks show, beginning around 9 pm with synchronized patriotic music. The Gazebo Grill at the Glenview Park Golf Club will be open at 6 pm serving brats, hotdogs, beer, wine, and soft drinks while fireworks light up the sky.

1st Annual Family Scramble- July 11

Parent-Child Best Ball Tournament- Aug. 8

Registration is going on now for Glenview National 9's Parent-Child Best Ball 9 Hole Tournament scheduled for August 8. Team up to compete and win prizes awarded in different four age divisions. In conjuction with the 175th Anniversary Exhibit of Robert Kennicott's Birth, The Grove presents a special Megatherium Lecture series featuring noted naturalists and scientists. This lecture features Steve Apfelbaum with his presentation on Ecology. Stick around for a book signing session after the presentation.

9th Annual Park Center Tri, ages 14 & up

Sunday, August 1, 6:30 am

Compete in a 300-yard swim, a 10-mile bike ride and a 5K run. All Park Center Tri participants receive a T-shirt, goodie bag, finishing medal and post-race refreshments. Entry fee is $75 per person. THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS JULY 23 (no race day registration). Pick up a registration form for either event at Park Center or go to www.getmeregistered.com

 

Volunteers Wanted for Park Center Tri. Spend a day in the sun while helping to make this event enjoyable for participants and spectators alike! You'll also get a volunteer t-shirt, hat, free Fitness Center passes and post race refreshments! Call (224) 521-2596 to volunteer.

Free Monthly Recycling Drop Off on July 17

Northfield Township offers free monthly recycling events at the Northfield Township Garage. Residents can drop off the following items at the Township facility:computer hardware, household paint (oil and latex), engine oil, hydraulic oil, transmission fluid, cell phones/pagers, metal, batteries (all types), tires, bikes & toys (usable condition), clothing (usable condition), durable medical equipment (canes, crutches, walkers, wheelchairs, standers, therapeutic equipment) and ink and toner cartridges. 
 
On-site, secure document shredding will be provided by Opportunity Secure Data Destruction.
 
Additional recycling events hosted by Highway Commissioner Peter Amarantos and Supervisor Jill Brickman will take place on August 21, September 25, and October 23.  All events run from 9 am - 1pm.  For additional information contact the Township office at 847-724-8300 or the Road District at 847-724-7055.
