Dear Glenview Park District Resident,
A trip to the farm for ice cream & country music ... a morning spent fishing with your child ... the chance to see a majestic hawk soaring above Air Station Prairie ... a spirited game of table tennis with friends ... there are so many great things to do at the Glenview Park District, it's hard to keep track of them all. So we've done it for you!

FALL FIGURE SKATING & DEVELOPMENT HOCKEY LESSONS
Almost anyone at any age can learn to skate and play hockey. Fall Figure Skating & Hockey lessons for preschoolers through adults start September 14 & 15. Introduce your little one to a sport that will help them develop balance, coordination & love for a great aerobic activity. Or sharpen your own skating skills with the Glenview Ice Center's progressive Hockey & Figure Skating programs. Click on the program name below for a registration form.

The Glenview Park District would like to remind parents and other patrons that you play a key role in helping us to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for your kids and for all "kids at heart." Please take a minute to read the Park District's guidelines on the H1N1 virus and other flu viruses and have a safe & healthy fall at the Glenview Park District.

Do you love sports, enjoy working with young people and have a few hours a week to share your passion? Why not become a volunteer sports coach for one of the Glenview Park District's Youth Sports Leagues? Volunteering is a great way to:
  • Get involved in your child's team
  • Gain experience working with children (great for high schoolers & college students interested in teaching!)
  • Give back to the community & make a difference

The Green Table is a new environmental community resource at the Farmer's Market whose goal is to promote conversation about and education on sustainable living. Visit with Rebecca Weaver-Gill this Saturday to learn about The Talking Farm. Rebecca has volunteered with The Talking Farm since Winter 2008--primarily focusing on education and playing in the dirt.  She grew up wandering through her grandmother's garden in South Carolina which led to volunteering with community gardeners and urban agriculture projects in MI, DC, TX, and CA.  In her non-free time, Rebecca supports transportation research at Northwestern University.
 
The Chef's Table
features local chefs doing cooking demonstrations using produce purchased at the market. Click here to see the featured chefs on September 12 & September 19.
 
Along with all the fresh produce, come on over to the farm and pick up a cold ice cream treat! Wagner Farm Sweets & Treats is now open weekends only on Saturdays from noon-5 pm and Sundays from noon-3 p.m. through October 17.

Autumn on the Farm fall merchandise sales begin Saturday, September 19.

Join us on a walking tour to learn about birds of the prairie. All levels of birders are welcome. Bring bird field guides, binoculars and be sure to dress for the weather. Meet at the Tyner Interpretive Center. Note: children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Hook your kid on fishing! Fishing expert Louis Schutz will be on hand providing tips on how and where to catch a fish and what to do once you catch a fish. The Glenview Senior Center welcomes The Falconaires Orchestra, a 21-piece big band orchestra, to the stage of the Lakeview Room, Park Center, 2400 Chestnut Ave. Light refreshments will be served beginning at 1 p.m. This is part of a series of Sunday musical performances hosted by the Glenview Senior Center. Admission is $1 and can be purchased at the door.

GLENVIEW CHILDREN'S THEATRE AUDITIONS
Tuesday & Wednesday, September 15 & 16, 4:15-6:15 pm
Students in grades 4-7, here's your chance to be a star in GCT's fall production, Recess, a wisecracking musical that is sure to put a smile on the principal's face. Everyone who auditions must bring sheet music to sing a song and read from the script. All cast members must pay a $190 participation fee. We'll do crazy crafts & action-packed sports at Park Center. Plus, we'll venture to Legoland in Schaumburg! The fee includes lunch and transportation to and from the field trip destination. PLEASE NOTE: A minimum of 15 children must sign up for each session or the program will be cancelled. Parents will be notified of cancellation 10 days in advance. If you love the game of chess so much you could play it all day long you will love this School Day Off program! Just bring a book for 30 minutes of quiet reading at the beginning of the session a sack lunch and a swimsuit and towel for swimming at Splash Landings in the afternoon. MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS TITAN SHOOTING CLINIC
Monday, Wednesday and Friday, September 21, 23 & 25, 4-6 pm
Love basketball? Then sign up now for this three-day clinic for girls in grades 6-8 who plan on playing on the park district basketball team or trying out for their middle school team. Taught by GBS Coach Mark Gallagher and several current GBS Titan Girls Basketball players. Every girl receives a t-shirt. Register online or at Park Center. $43 (R)/$53.75 (NR). PRE-SEASON BASKETBALL TUNE-UP CLINICS
Four-week clinics for boys and girls in grades 3-5 and grades 6-8.
Brush up on your skills with skill work, drills and game play. A great opportunity to get ready for the basketball season! The clinics will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. at Park Center. Eight tables are set up for anyone grade 6-adult to drop in and play a pick-up game. Admission is $5 per visit per person.

Available to anyone at no charge. No organized groups allowed on the track. Children 11 and under must be in direct supervision of an adult while using the track.

Rotary Club of Glenview Sunrise
12TH ANNUAL ROTARY RUN FOR GLENVIEW
Sunday, September 20
This year marks the 12th annual Rotary Run for Glenview, the annual community event and fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Glenview Sunrise. This year's event will again feature 10K, 5K, and 1 mile races and a 1 mile family fun-run and walk. This year there will be live entertainment and emcee with prizes, food, and refreshments. There will be plenty of free parking and bathrooms nearby. Click here for registration information & entry fees.
