Reflection by Rebecca on interfaith relationship, the joys and challenges.
Aufruf ("call up" in Yiddish) is the ceremony in which a bride and groom are called up to recite the blessing over the Torah in synagogue. (In Orthodox Synagogues, only the groom.)
Traditionally, this is done the Sabbath before the wedding (at the Saturday Jewish Sabbath before a Sunday wedding.) This week we celebrate the upcoming interfaith wedding of Rebecca and Jacob, by "calling up" Rebecca to reflect on this week's scripture reading.
As part of our gathering we will bless Rebecca and Jacob for their upcoming wedding.
7:00 Dinner this week--BBQ
It is also traditional for the bride and groom to provide the meal after the service on the day of the aufruf, so Jacob and Rebecca are providing the meats for our BBQ!
Let's give thanks for Rebecca and Jacob as we lift up our prayers this week!
