Wicker Park Grace - an exploration of grace-based faith
 Can you imagine...

a community
based on grace,

where many people come together to be transformed,

where people bring their whole selves,
all their dreams, all their questions?

Can you imagine a future together
centered in a generous
and dynamic Christianity?

Four years into our growth, the Wicker Park Grace seed money is running out and we are pooling our resources to continue creating what has begun here.

As we lay the foundation for financial health and well-being in 2009, we are facing a significant budget shortfall in 2008. Together we can continue to build a community filled with grace and hope.

This is not your standard fundraising appeal, because "we" are not asking "you" to help "us." We're inviting you to be part of us. So that WE together can continue to live into a future of possibilities for what church can be.

...Centered in a generous and dynamic Christianity...

That's how we talk about WPGrace.

We're more focused on our center than on any boundary. We try not to create insiders and outsiders, but instead break down the walls that tend to divide us as human beings.

We strive to be generous by bringing our whole selves to what we do at WPGrace. We open our hearts and reach out in real engagement with everyone who shows up, so that we can be changed into people of grace and hospitality.

And we honor the dynamic nature of the Christian tradition, which has never been static but has always been a vibrant conversation among people trying to know God in the way of Jesus.

Imagine that.

Be part of it. Make it happen.

Our history...

Church without walls...
Wicker Park Grace began in coffee shops and tea houses when the Presbytery of Chicago hired Nanette to be a community minister and dream up ideas of how to be in relationship with young adults who were not attending church.

"Drink 500 cups of chai latte with neighborhood folks" her job description said!

Church outside the box...
In 2005, with three-way grant funding from the local, regional and national branches of the Presbyterian Church, Wicker Park Grace became a "New Church Development" and started meeting in the Acme Art Works building. They were embedded in an "arts incubator" in the neighborhood with artists, arts organizations, and non-profit organizations.

Emerging Church...
Now we're part of a national movement, a network of people living into the church of the future, a church based on grace and inclusivity, focused on life-here-now, and following God in the way of Jesus.
