There was an article recently in the Portland Business Journal about a new start-up ~~ Copa di Vino ~~ in The Dalles specializing in high-quality Pacific Northwest wine in ready-to-drink, single serving portions. You might say that Copa di Vino could be considered my competition; however, in the Oregon wine scene we do what we can to promote the wine industry in general, rather than be proprietary about it.
I find this concept somewhat fascinating. The idea is that the wine is meant to be consumed directly from the hour-glass shaped recyclable plastic cup that comes sealed at the rim. The technology of the glass was created in partnership with a colleage in France who developed the technique, which enabled the rim of a wine glass to be sealed.
What a perfect idea for a picnic in the park, camping on the beach, or any other venue where a bottle, a cork and glasses are not convenient. Each Copa di Vino sells for $2.49 each and can be found at Barbur World Foods, Whole Foods and New Seasons.
I say "cheers" to Mr. Martin and his French partner! Happy Sipping!

Featured Wines from Cru 79 Wine Group*
Capitello Wines 2008 Pinot Gris: The beautiful pale straw color and intense aroma of passion fruit are so inviting with this new vintage. Aromas of nectarines and floral perfume - honeysuckle notes fill the glass. In the mouth, this wine is bright round and balanced, exploding with fruit flavors of apricot-pear and passionfruit that lingers well into the long finish. $13.50/bottle
Capitello Wines 2008 Pinot Noir (Marlborough, New Zealand): This is an amazing Pinot Noir for close to $20/bottle. Bright, cherry nose leads to a flavor profile of strawberrys raspberries.Nice contrast to Oregon Pinot Noir. Very approachable now. $21.50/bottle
J. Daan Wine Cellars 2007 Syrah: Sweet vanilla and coffee notes are layered throughout the nose and palate. Sweet cinnamon spice and black cherry have slight pie like quality that is appealing. Lush and slightly structured, it will age gracefully or drink well now with roasted meats or hearty vegetarian fare. Winemaker Justin VanZanten is the assistant to Andrew Rich. $18.00/bottle
Ribbon Ridge Vineyard 2007 Cuvee Alsatian White Blend: The Cuvee M is a special white blend styled after the great Alsatian white blends -- elegant and fruity, designed to be enjoyed outdoors during the warm days of summer. $16.00/bottle
Ribbon Ridge Vineyuard 2006 Pinot Noir (Dewey Kelly): Lots of high-tone, spicy red fruit greets your nose. The flavors develop from bright raspberry and cherry, with darker cherry, plum, and earth nuances fleshing out on the finish. Light and refreshing, with enough zingy red fruit to please even your pickiest friends! $19.75/bottle
Guardian Cellars 2006 Cabernet Blend (Gun Metal): The newest release of Guardian's Gun Metal is a knockout featuring notes of black cherry, raspberry and plum. They used 48% Cabernet, 30% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 11% Malbec in this vintage. The slight bit of Malbec is new for the 2006 and it lends to an aroma of spice, black tea and soy sauce (strange, but true). Gun Metal is comprised entirely of fruit from Conner Lee Vineyard. The wine spent 22 months in 80% new French oak and 13 months in bottle at release. May sell out! $28.60/bottle
Hestia Cellars 2007 Meritage: Bright marionberry, spice, and a hint of sweet tobacco, along with well integrated tannins and a long finish make this a great wine to drink now or cellar. Aged 23 months in 100% French oak barrels. Now only $21.00/bottle
