I LOVE this business! Why you ask? Well, two of my very favorite producers have joined the ranks of those who have announced their Spring Releases ~~ St. Innocent and J. Christopher. The winemakers from these outstanding wineries are serious about the art of hand-crafted wine. They have learned the skill of picking the grapes at peak ripeness, even when faced with the uncertainty of weather and the length of the growing season. This takes guts and fearless determination to let the grapes mature so as to create that perfect bottle of wine.
And it certainly doesn't hurt when you get rave reviews from one of the industry's most well-respected wine critics. Matt Kramer could not say enough last Sunday in The Oregonian about J. Christopher's Willamette Valley Pinot Noir - not only for flavor but for value. 2007 was an extremely tricky vintage - due to a cool summer and heavy rains late into the harvest. It was like a battle of the wills - pick or not to pick? Both of these winemakers made the right decision and will reap rich dividends with their decisions. 2007 ST. INNOCENT "Vitae Springs" PINOT GRIS
Spicy nose with orange peel and citrus. The spiciness continues into the mouth with pear, apple, and citrus flavors. It is a very full pinot gris. It is completely dry so is a perfect match for Asian-influenced foods, sushi, appetizers and fish.

2007 ST. INNOCENT "Freedom Hill" PINOT BLANC
The aromas are amazing with clarity and brightness to sweet floral and tropical fruit notes. Absolutely one of my favorite Pinot Blancs. Layers of sweet stone and pomme fruit flavors tickle your tastebuds with hints of spice. A long, lingering finish.

2007 ST. INNOCENT "Freedom Hill" CHARDONNAY
An 'enormous' nose piques your curiosity from the get-go. Aromatics of white and yellow fruits, spice, orange blossom and stones abound in the air. Flavors of yellow fruit reminiscent of peach compote and more spices is mouth watering. Match this wine with shellfish, cornish hens, and cheeses. A perfect summer accompaniment to those meals on the deck or patio.

2007 ST. INNOCENT "Villages Cuvee" PINOT NOIR
A blend of new and old Pinot blocks at Vitae Springs Vineyard. This wine starts with a nose of red and black fruits with spice, pepper and floral notes. Cherry and black raspberry flavors are layered with spice and dark flowers. Dark ruby and full bodied. Let this one sit out on the counter for an hour before adding to your dinner table.

2007 J. CHRISTOPHER "Cristo Irresisto" ROSE'
Fruit for this rosé was sourced in Mosier, Oregon. No Pinot Noir included, this is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and a tiny bit of a "secret" grape, Viognier (the secret is out). The fruit was quickly pressed with no additional skin contact (thus just the hint of color), and fermented completely dry. Floral hints, with red cherry flavors and a pronounced minerality on the finish.

2007 J. CHRISTOPHER - SAUVIGNON BLANC
Elegant, with a floral nose and bright flavors of lemon peel, tropical fruit and wet rocks.
