Gilda's Club Twin Cities' Third Annual Roseanne Roseannadanna Golf Benefit Raised Over $170,000 net
Roseanne Roseannadanna (aka Randy Edelstein)
 | Our goal was to exceed last year's total of $63,000.To say we hit it out of the ballpark is an understatement.
As a result we are even closer to providing the only dedicated cancer support facility in the Twin Cities that will deliver critical emotional and social support for the over 10,000 men, women, teens and children who are waiting for a Gilda's Club in the Twin Cities. While on our way, we are still in need of $1.5 million to reach our capital campaign goal. If you missed the event or the opportunity to make a donation, you can still make a difference by donating now, Click Here
This overwhelming success could not have happened with out the help and support of a wonderful group of people dedicated to making Gilda's Club in the Twin Cities a reality. We caught up with a few and here is what they had to say:
I thought the day was really fun, and it looked like everyone who participated, the golfers and the amazing volunteers enjoyed it as much as I.That is how I would like to portray our Gilda's Club, a joyful experience adding lightness and laughter for everyone touched by cancer, everyday. Jolie Klapmeier Golf Committee Co-chair
The evening program was wonderful I was absolutely touched by the personal stories of courage. Very powerful. These are the people we will be helping when the doors are open. Wendy Seyb, Golfer
As a silent auction contributor to several events I have enjoyed watching the bidding on the pieces I have created go over the top. Donating this way keeps me invested in Gilda's Club and keeps me coming back to help make this happen in the Twin Cities. Jim Wadsworth, Silent Auction Contributor & Golfer

Executive Director's Desk -- a personal story
|
Last month I spent time at the Gilda's
Club Quad Cities, located in Davenport, Iowa, where they have had a clubhouse
for 12 years. My intention Michelle Silverman | in making this visit was to learn and bring back
information for our Gilda's Club. What I experienced was powerful and
unexpected; my own personal transformation.
I have had my fair share of
"therapy and support groups" over my lifetime in order to heal from the pain of
losing my mother at age 14 to breast cancer. However, NEVER in all of these
years have I experienced a physical and emotional release that was so powerful.
It was magical. Now I understand firsthand what people are talking aboutGilda's Club Quad Cities | when
they say "Gilda's Magic".
I experienced it for myself.
Quite
frankly, I didn't even know I was still carrying so much pain from losing my
mother. And now the pain is
transformed. I left the group with tools about how to keep my mother alive with
me even though she has been gone for so many years. I was able to transform
very old pain into hope and love. I became a member of the Gilda's Club Quad
Cities and I look forward to becoming a member of the Gilda's Club Twin Cities
too. I would love an opportunity to meet with you to discuss what is we need to open the doors of Gilda's Club Twin Cities. Please contact me at: michelle.silverman@gildasclubtwincities.org I want to thank you for continuing on
this journey with me as exemplified by the generous gifts of time and financial
support received during our 2010 Third Annual Roseanna Roseannadanna Golf Event
held last month. That was a day of "Gilda's Magic."

In My Own Words - "BT" Turner, Cities 97
| It was the
people in my life that got me to the other side of my cancer story in 1998. From my
wife and kids, through my group of friends and co-workers, people in the
community that I knew and my radio listeners-it was a collective effort that
got me to where I needed to be. And quite frankly, the place I needed to be was
alive.
A stage IV
cancer diagnosis is not the kind of thing you want to hear from your
doctor. And yes,
I'll accept the trophy as "Master of Understatement!" "BT" Turner | That's about as bad as it gets. My son
and I were laying in bed together on a July morning in 1998, and as I rolled
over to take a look at him-my collarbone broke. Turns out there was a tumor
there, causing the bone to be brittle. Renal cancer had spread from a large
spot on my left kidney to places in bones all over my body-one of my femurs,
several of my vertebrae, and many other bones. Can you imagine if the place a bone first broke was next to my spinal
column.
While the doctor was explaining to me what I had, and what I
was about to go through, I was looking in the eyes of my wife and my kids.
There was no way I wasn't going to be around for these people, and at the very
innt that my diagnosis was explained to me, I had made up my mind to get
through it, no matter what. I am blessed
with a very strong will to live.

Five Dollar Favor
|
I would like to ask you for a five dollar favor. Think
about the people in your life that have been touched by cancer--a loved one, a
friend, a co-worker, a neighbor. I have an opportunity for you to honor
them. On Denim Day, October 8, 2010, our team, Gilda's Club Twin Cities, has
pledged to wear jeans to work and donate at least $5 each to Lee National Denim
Day. I invite you to join our team and work with me to help raise money for our Gilda's Club. For every dollar donated, 40% stays in
Minnesota and will be used to open our very own clubhouse. To join our Gilda's Club Twin Cities team and make
your $5 donation, Click Here OR, you can start your own team - a corporate team, group of
friends and family, your book club, your church, temple or school, Click Here
PLEASE share my request by forwarding this GildaGram to friends
and family who would be willing to donate $5 to this meritorious and much
needed cause. You can make your donation in honor or in memory
of a loved one or your donation can be anonymous if you wish. The online
donation form at www.denimday.com is really easy to complete and will only take a
minute. The return on your investment is priceless. Your support will go along way toward helping us achieve our goal
of receiving a major contribution from Lee Jeans as a result of this national
campaign. We are fortunate and honored to have been selected as their charitable
partner for Minnesota. Thank you so much for your compassion and for reaching into
your heart today. Laurie Walker, 12 year breast cancer survivor and ardent supporter
of Gilda's Club

Are you a Knitter?
|
A new west
metro group is forming to knit chemo hats for Gilda's Club Twin Cities. The group's
organizer, Marian Eisner, has been knitting hats for friends who have been so
appreciative she thought it would be enjoyable to get together with a group and
knit hats for Gilda's Club.
The plan is to meet informally at the Marsh in
Minnetonka. For more information please contact
