Let's Deliver on Our Promise to the Twin Cities
I am so excited to be a part of Gilda's Club Twin Cities (GCTC) as our momentum is about to blow the doors wide open. I hope you can feel the energy too. The GCTC board and I invite you to Join Us Right Now as we kick off our 2010 capital campaign.

Over the years, many of you have been a crucial part of this organization through your ongoing support of money and time. By the end of 2010, weMichelle Silverman WILL announce the clubhouse opening date and location. We will deliver on our promise to open the only dedicated cancer support facility in the Twin Cities.

As I write this article there are over 10,000 men, women, teens and children waiting for our help. Last week I answered a call from a 39-year old husband and father just diagnosed with terminal cancer and he wanted our help supporting his wife and four children. While I was able to refer him to our volunteer social worker for guidance, I knew there was so much more we could do for that family if our doors were open and our program was up and running.

In order to bring the healing power of emotional and psychological cancer support to our community, I am asking you to get involved or increase your level of involvement. It is going to take a village, actually the "Twin Cities," to make this happen.

With Gratitude,
Michelle Silverman

Dr. Khoyratty

Gilda's Club Twin Cities is pleased to welcome Dr. Khoyratty as a member of our MRC. She has long been a strong believer in the importance of social and emotional support as a complement to medical care for those touched by cancer, their families and friends.

"I am excited to be associated with the newly merged organization of Gilda's Club and the Wellness Community and look forward to helping open this affiliate clubhouse in the Twin Cities."

Dr. Khoyratty went on to say, "I think it is important for individuals and their families who go through the cancer journey from diagnosis, treatment, and then reintegration into their lives to have access to a resource outside the clinic and hospital environment."

"At Gilda's Club they will find networking, support groups, workshops, education and social activities for the whole family all provided in a home-like atmosphere at no cost. Our community needs this kind of resource as an adjunct to the expert medical care available in Minnesota."

 A Great 3rd Party
Fundraising Success Story

The Cut-a-Thon at Accolades at Intelligent Nutrients Salon & Spa was a huge success. We would like to thank our hosts--Brad Schlaeger, Jessica McKenzie, Johnny Zygomatic and the stylists who gave up their day off for this event. A special thanks to our Gilda's Club volunteers who received many compliments from the guests and salon staff regarding their professionalism, passion and commitment to establishing a Gilda's Club in the Twin Cities. This is the spirit that will open our doors.

Not only was this fundraiser a financial success it was great fun for everyone involved. "The Gilda's Club volunteers were awesome, they handled all of the guests, welcomed them as they arrived, answered all of their questions and talked to them about the event" said Jessica McKenzie, Accolades at Intelligent Nutrients manager. "We figured 80% of our guests were new to the salon so it was wonderful to have them so warmly greeted."

The turnout for the event was higher than expected, keeping the stylists busy from 11 to 6:30. All of the $1,300 in proceeds was donated to Gilda's Club. Everyone had such a good time and it was so successful the salon has offered to do another Cut-a-Thon event.

Spread the word. You too can hold a 3rd party fundraising event at your home, organization, or business. Every dollar raised brings us that much closer to making Gilda's Club Twin Cities a brick and mortar reality.

Visit the Photo Gallery at the end of this GildaGram to share in the fun at Accolades.
