Board Notes

Board Member Rick Kleven, Secretary/Governance:
Our board of directors is taking a very strong strategic focus as we move ahead with our plans for 2009 and beyond. A high priority will be to hire an executive director to help us solve what we all agree is a critical
need-fundraising, including the launch of a capital campaign. We're thrilled to have found an expert to help us with our executive director search, Wendy Seyb, who brings us a wealth of human resources experience and enthusiasm. Wendy is generously helping us on a pro bono basis.

In addition, we are actively recruiting talented and dedicated individuals who can help by joining our board or in other expert advisory capacities. It is gratifying for all of us on the board to see our compelling mission providing us with introductions to so many remarkable people. While our work is exciting, the challenges of building a new organization are tremendous- we're so thankful to those who continue to work tirelessly to help us achieve our goals and give, even in these times of economic uncertainty. Our board is very optimistic about our plans, and is focused on making sure we take the necessary steps so that we can bring this much-needed special mission to the Twin Cities.

    GCTC Ambassador Program
The Board of Directors announced Kathi Pitra as the GCTC Ambassador Program Chair. In her role, Kathi will develop and launch the GCTC Ambassador Program, a program that trains and certifies individuals to become official GCTC spokespersons. GCTC Ambassadors will speak with other associations, clubs, and businesses in an effort to build awareness, while generating contributions and soliciting volunteers. By building an emotional connection with audiences these speakers can add significant value, as Kathi explains, "the most passionate and effective speakers are those who can skillfully relay their story of how cancer has impacted their lives."  Kathi is actively seeking individuals who are interested in speaking engagements; please contact her at: kathi.pitra@marquette.com
