Thoughts on Looking Your Best
 One of the things I enjoy most about being a physician is the long-term relationships that I have had with my patients over the years. I love hearing about the new child or grandchild, or better yet, seeing a photo! I enjoy trading parenting advice, travel ideas, book reviews and gardening tips. What does any of this have to do with being your doctor or choosing a cosmetic procedure? Good question, but I think knowing these things about you goes a long way to helping me know who you are. Most of us really only want to look good for us, or to look healthy or rested. I almost never hear a patient say "I want to look just like Jennifer Aniston" or "George Clooney" for example. And, the better I know you as a person, including your hobbies, career and lifestyle, the better I can advise you on how to look like a healthy, happy version of yourself. I also find the human face to be a fascinating study. I enjoy studying the different shapes of noses, lips and cheeks and I think it so important to preserve my patients' individual features and characteristics as we contemplate facial rejuvenation options. And, truthfully, I like to improve things. So, I get a feeling of satisfaction when I've helped erase, or at least improve, years of sun damage, acne or acne scarring. And, I am particularly pleased that I help women remove unwanted facial hair--and I don't mean just a stray chin hair, but a full beard. Seeing the transformation into a self-confident woman, from a woman who just wanted to hide the 5 o'clock shadow, is deeply satisfying. So, I think the point about looking your best is just that--looking your best, being comfortable in your own skin. A patient I saw last week shared a comment from a friend she hadn't seen in 5 years. "You look great and in fact younger and healthier now than you did 5 years ago". She thanked me, but actually I think she is just comfortable in her own skin now and she radiates confidence. Sure, I've helped her improve her skin with a Fraxel laser procedure and a good skin care regimen. And she has Botox injections periodically to soften a frown line.
