Greetings!
Summer has finally arrived in Oregon and we hope to share some tips to keep your skin looking healthy and vibrant. It is importlant to remember that results from skin rejuvenation procedures and facial plastic surgery last longer and are generally better in those patients who protect their skin from harmful UV rays, and who nurture their skin with appropriate and effective skin care regimens.

We also have recommendations for safe summer rejuvenation procedures to help you "face" the reunions looking your best.

ENJOY SUMMERTIME AND PROTECT YOUR SKIN

Just because you want to protect your skin from the sun doesn't mean you have to sit summer out. You can still remain active while maintaining healthy skin habits and reducing your risk of skin cancer in only a few steps:

Step one:  Slather It On!
The Skin Cancer Foundation (SCF) recommends applying one ounce (two tablespoons) of SPF 15+ sunscreen (we'd encourage more like an SPF 30+) to your entire body at least thirty minutes before going outdoors. This should be repeated every two hours. Also, seek the shade between the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also, make sure to use a broad spectrum sunscreen  preferably including zinc oxide.

Step two: Wear It Well.
Must-haves in your summer wardrobe should not only include UVA 400 sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats. Wearing clothing with UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) will help cover the rest of you. These special fabrics are becoming easier to find and have a tighter weave or knit. The protection factor is often 30 to 50+.

Step three: Check It Out.
You can detect any changes in your skin by checking your skin head-to-toe every month. The SCF also recommends seeing your physician every year for a professional skin exam. The sun is responsible for over 90 percent of all skin cancers. Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common form, which occurs most frequently on the face, ears, neck, scalp, shoulders and back.
