Greetings!
So I heard Autobahn was a little like cars on skates this past weekend. I caught a nasty virus that's been going around and was sad to miss our last HSAX of the season. Sounds like most people were in good spirits despite the cold and even managed some night-time shenanigans. The cold track was a bitter lover to some during the day, and I hope there was minimal damage to those so afflicted by it.
That Loooong Race marks the last weekend of racing for MCSCC and CSCC is planning all the usual fun. This is a great event for the family and kids with all the festivities.
For Autocrossers not yet ready to retire for the season, MSCC is running a parking lot autocross at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI. I might have to check it out since it's practically in my back yard!
As our season winds down & we get ready for our 2012 Awards Banquet and 2013 season, we have an open call for award and BOD nominations. Below, you'll find information about the Special Awards given out at the Awards Banquet as well as the nomination form to fill out & forward to Sue Boldt by Oct 31. We will also be voting on Board of Directors Positions in December. Duties are detailed below, as well. If you'd like to nominate someone, or self-nominate, please let Chuck Cassaro know before the November Board meeting.
Until we race again,

Wheels of Fortune (Sept 15-16): My thanks to the F&C crew
Strange little weekend, this - especially Saturday! Working alone a fair chunk of the day at Corner 6A, I was glad I had my bubble stuff with me to play with during the delays for oil clean-up and T&S glitches. Experienced corner workers will pack a "track bag" with things they might need in order to operate more efficiently AND things that will make the day more pleasant. For me... for Saturday... that was a bubble wand.
Our Sunday crew was perhaps a bit on the light side (geez, the Run-Offs didn't start 'til Monday, did they?) but as far as I could tell the day seemed to go pretty smoothly. And man, both days, the weather... awesome! This is my favorite part of the the racing season - my favorite season of the year.
Anyway, with affection and appreciation, I present the flagging crew for the Wheels of Fortune weekend: Char M, Bob G, Steve & Cindy R, Jared C (W2W driver), Kristen M, John K, Dennis D (W2W driver), Sarabess B, Dick P (W2W driver), Sheryl R, Karl L, Michal P (recent AX student), Rob W (W2W driver), Ronda S (W2W driver), Dewey R (W2W driver), Jay P, Joe C (AXer), Phillip D (W2W driver), John L, Owen L, Bill S.
Many thanks go out to each and every one of you. Obviously, your contribution to the weekend was huge... vital, really. We sure could use more folks like you guys (and gals)! And a special shout-out to the competitor/workers. Midwestern Council was built by and for people like you! Apologies if I missed anyone's association (W2W driver or AXer); and a request, if I did, to please let me know. If you ask me, you all deserve "extra credit" in the championship points races.
Lemme tell ya, you are definitely "class champions" in my book!

| At September's event, HSAX competitors had several delays to contend with caused by on-track incidents and some equipment issues, but the beautiful day made it more tolerable. Things go wrong sometimes, but we've had such an amazing season with events posting record numbers of runs... I think we can call it even. There's been a lot of new lap records set this season too. Below is video of Cameron Lane breaking his own record lap time in SU:
 | Blackhawk Farms Sept 2012 - 1:18:13 |
Saturday night saw our first attempt at an adult big wheel race following dinner. With only one big wheel between all the competitors, it was a bit more like an HSAX. I hope to see this event grow a bit more next year. A rare occurrence this year, both HSAX AND Racers had beautiful weather for the weekend!

Even on a big wheel, Hal is determined to "win".

Bill Dalton Memorial
by Paul Fitzsimmons
|
Bill Dalton, long-time VSCDA member and former VSCDA chief of tech suffered a heart attack while working an event at Blackhawk Farms Raceway on October 8, 2011, and passed away that day after being airlifted to Rockford Memorial Hospital.
At his wake a number of his friends proposed a memorial for Bill at Blackhawk Farms. It was eventually decided that a plaque in Bill's memory would be erected at Blackhawk Farms, contributed by VSCDA, Sports Car Club of America - Milwaukee Region and Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs. Dennis Troemel represented SCCA-Milwaukee Region, Lynne Serra, Midwestern Council and Paul Fitzsimmons, VSCDA in arranging for the design of the plaque and its installation at Blackhawk Farms.
Paul Musschoot, owner of Blackhawk Farms had erected a pylon near the false grid area for the placement of memorials and also contributed to the expense of the plaque, as did Dennis Troemel and Ian James. The plaque was installed in early August, 2012.

HSAX Chief Starter Needed
| Call for Autocross Starters! MC's Chief Starter for Autocross has resigned and we need a replacement! You should be familiar with the current HSAX format AND understand how to safely place cars on the track - both for Practice Sessions AND Timed Runs. If you are a HSAX participant you can still race and will receive priority access to the track for your own Practice Sessions and Timed Runs. A team minimum of 2 knowledgeable volunteers would be ideal. If you can help, please contact John Eberhardt dje1050@hotmail.com. |
