Greetings!
Wow, Memorial Day weekend sure was a hot one at Blackhawk Farms. Area news stations reported a high of 99 in nearby Rockford on Sunday, adding it was the hottest place in the entire country that day! What a hardy bunch we are, as turnout for the weekend was still really good. Due to timing I am not able to include pictures, but they will be up in the website gallery once available & included in the next edition.
You will find pictures from the May 5-6 event below. What a difference in temperature between the two events! Or this past week for that matter. "Be prepared" might be a good motto for the season. Hmm... boy scouts might fair particularly well this year. Did you follow along as our friend, Yves Boode, attended the Mille Miglia in support of the Siata 1100 VT Vignale? You can read all about it in his blog on Vintage Sports Car. He also included a lot of beautiful pictures, of cars & locale. We have several friends invited to participate in the ASA Howie Lettow Memorial Stock Car Race at the Milwaukee Mile on June 12 to benefit the MACC Fund. Follow the link to the right for more information. It'd be great if we could have a lot of people make it out in support of them & the cause. Chuck Cassaro will be making his professional debut in the Trans-Am series at Mid-Ohio next weekend (June 8-10). I'm sure he wouldn't mind seeing some friendly faces if you're able to get out & support him. You can also follow him on his new Facebook fan page dedicated to his race career. The Trans-Am Mid-Ohio Event Site also has links for schedule information as well as live timing & scoring. Autocrossers... NSSCC has opened up a group for an Autocross Invitational on Sunday at Road America. This will be a non-points event in HPDE format. See below for more information and follow the forum thread for updates. Don't forget about our staffing event this month, the VSCDA Classic at Blackhawk Farms. New this year: working a corner now counts towards novice sign-offs! The event is a lot of fun to work & it is wonderful to watch those old roadsters run the track like they never stopped. There have also been vintage airplanes displayed on the airfield, as well as vintage military displays throughout the grounds. This event proves classic never goes out of style! Until we race again, Michele Salamun Klaxon Editor |

Autocross Invitational at Road America
| North Suburban Sports car club is bringing the thrill of Road America to Midwestern Council's High Speed Autocrossers. As part of the Return to Road America III Double Race Weekend, NSSCC will sponsor the High Speed Autocross Invitational on Sunday, August 12th, 2012. The High Speed Autocross Invitational will be a dedicated run group within the raceday schedule receiving the same amount of track time as the rest of the race groups. The group will run an HPDE format. Times will be available for those participants that have transponders. Transponders will be available for rent at the track. Passing will be allowed in designated zones around the 4 mile circuit. This is a non-points event. Entry to the group is available only to Midwestern Council members in good standing who have participated in at least three MC series HSAX events over the past two seasons (2010-2011) or have participated in two HSAX events in 2012 prior to the Return to Road America III weekend. Verification of HSAX event participation will be based on Official Event Results posted on the MCSCC website in the Results and Track Records section. All entries will be reviewed and entrants approved by the lead MC HSAX Instructor John Churchill. Entry will be $225 and pre-registration is required. Full event information and registration application forms will be available soon at www.nsscc.org. Questions can also be directed to NSSCC President Brian Garcia at president@nsscc.org or via the NSSCC hotline 855-48-NSSCC. NSSCC is happy to bring this event to the HSAX community. We look forward to seeing you at Road America.

SE WI Hall of Fame Golf Outing & Dinner
with Bobby & Judy Allison By Dick Karth
|
I was born and raised in Shawano, went to school in Madison, lived in La Crosse for 23 years, and had been living in New York City for almost 3 years when we moved to Grafton in 2005 and found Lakeshore and Midwestern Council.
Until I moved back I didn't realize how lucky we are to enjoy so many motorsports opportunities and live where we live.
North America's longest and premier road course just up the road at Elkhart Lake (and if you have a MCSCC Comp license or are a regular MCSCC HSAXer you can run on RA in August!), the legendary Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Blackhawk Farms and Autobahn Country Club a new short hours away.
All that makes for a busy month of June: the Howie Lettow ASA Midwest Tour benefiting the MACC Fund at the Mile on June 12th, Indy Cars at the Mile on Father's Day weekend, the renowned June Sprints and NASCAR Nationwide race at Road America, and the VSCDA Vintage Event at Blackhawk Farms. Add to that all the weekly short track races at the paved and dirt ovals throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois and there is just more motorsports in our little piece of geography than probably anywhere else in the world!
There is another event I'd like to bring to your attention.

The Southeastern Wisconsin Short Track Hall of Fame which is housed in the Wisconsin Auto Museum (Hartfold, WI--just west of Slinger on Hwy 60) is having its annual golf outing
and banquet on Tuesday, June 19th at The Golf Club at Camelot--Lomira, WI; east of 41 on Hwy
67 (between Slinger and Fond du Lac). Link to the event flyer at right or visit their website.
Event Chair Dick Melius tells me there are about two golf foursomes available and 20 seats for the banquet. You don't have to golf to attend the banquet.
Golf, lunch, & dinner is $80 per person.
Dinner only is $25 per person.
Autograph Session - 4:30pm
Dinner/Auction - 5:30pm
Contact Dick Melius: 612-865-8983
Bobby Allison and his wife Judy are honored guests.
Bobby Allison is a true legend in motorsports. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Allison
- NASCAR Spring (then Winston) Club Champion in 1983.
- NASCAR Grand Slam Winner: Daytona 500, Winston 500 (Talladega), World (Coca-Cola) 500 (Charlotte), and the Southern 500 (Darlington).
- One of NASCAR top 50 drivers of all time.
- Already enshrined in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
- 718 Cup starts over 25 years.
- Two time starter in the Indianapolis 500
- Tested Mercury outboards on Lake Winnebago for Mercury owner Carl Kiekhaefer.
Think about it ... dinner, motorsports banquet, plus Bobby and Judy Allison all for $25!!!!!
For tickets and reservations, contact Dick Melius at 612-865-8983 (I know its a Minnesota cell phone number. Dick lives in Slinger and works in West Allis and has a Minnesota cell phone number, but don't worry ... Dick Melius and the banquet is for real!)
Hope to see you there.

Sign-Up Still OPEN
Women leadership and performance in motorsports (as competitors, crew, staff, and/or as mothers) have an opportunity to participate in academic research that will be used to update and expand sociological empirical literature regarding women as risk-takers in male-dominated sports. This is a great chance to enhance appreciation of female involvement in "non-traditional" roles. I sincerely hope all applicable will let their voices be heard! Please review further details, click link to 'Volunteer-Sign-Up' with 'Reply' card and email to cbrantl1@stu.argosy.ed with subject Reply Card: 'Volunteer for Research Study'
Thank you in advance for your timely assistance. I appreciate confirmation you will reach out to me regarding volunteering to participate in what I believe is important academic research. According to your feedback, I will follow-up with more information. Feel free to refer other female racers, call or email questions, and offer suggestions.
PS. Think about your contacts - you are welcomed to forward this description & attachment to others that qualify for the study... 'Let's Accelerate The News'.
