Greetings!
I hope you are enjoying this wonderful reprieve we are having from the Texas heat! It reminds me that fall is not far around the corner; time to start thinking about the holidays. A lot of us react to the idea of preparing our homes for the holidays with a deep inhale or gasp from anticipated stress.
If that is your reaction, this an invitation to consider entertaining, especially holiday entertaining, from a different perspective this year. Instead of focusing on having a perfect home, food or decorations, think about the "why" behind sharing food in our homes with others.
Maybe it's a sign of maturing (getting older), but to me life is too short to not enjoy it with our friends and family. Read the articles below to learn more about the art and intangible gift of hospitality we are giving others when we host in our home, work, church or school. I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on this topic.
Enjoy these tips on the art of hospitality!

I want to wrap up the 2012 Colormix series with neutrals and next month BLUES. NEUTRALS: "Picture a field of grain, pile of pebbles, weathered wood and earthen clay. Gold tones embody the sun and soft metallics - and warm up this understated yet refined palette. Textural elements, such as linen, unfired porcelain and mixed woods, provide subtle tonal variations," said Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams. |

The Gift of Hospitality
Although today the term "hospitality" describes an industry serving travelers and guests away from the comforts of home, hospitality has been practiced throughout history. In the dictionary, it is defined as "the friendly treatment of guests or strangers; an act or show of welcome."
Hospitality has been considered a virtue in most cultures and religions throughout history. It is referenced in the laws and covenants of the Old Testament, as well as the New Testament and is associated with promise and blessing. It is a said to be a spiritual gift and an expression of compassion.
Hospitality can be expressed through many ways; from sharing food and drink at anytime or place all the way to providing overnight lodging. We are making someone feel welcome and "at home" when they are our guests. We want to prepare our homes not only for our comfort but for the purpose of sharing our lives with our guests and making them feel comfortable in our home.
