People Make When Selecting Color

Greetings!

I hope 2012 is off to a great start for you!  It seems to be a year for fresh starts so I wanted to share a few ways to refresh your home, starting with color.

Every year Sherwin-Williams presents color-mix, which has become a designer's resource for up-coming color trends.  This issue showcases the color we think of when we think of growth and refreshing: "greens"; blues, reds and neutrals to follow.  The trend currently is mixing colors that are analogous, or next to each other on the colorwheel like blue and green, or pink and orange.

And speaking of "green", NewLifeHardwoods is a source for new floors made from antique wood.  Pat Hicks, the owner, gave my ASID Peer group a tour of his showroom and factory which is in an old lumberyard.  I was very impressed with him and his business and can't wait to use them on a project.  Who wants to be first?

Warmest Regards,

Sherwin-Williams Colormix 2012COLORMIX 2012 by Sherwin-Williams: Greens
The easiest way to add color to your home is with paint, especially on the walls of a room.  But you have opportunities all around you to use color to create a mood, reflect your personality, as well as draw inspiration from nature to inspire your color choices.  Color-mix is a good reminder of the connection in our use of color, nature and culture.
Sitting Room
Walls: SW 6478 Watery
GREENS:"This eclectic palette focuses on greens that are lush, moody and complex. It showcases the depths of the sea and forest; leafy motifs; rustic natural textures; and organic elements such as algae, moss and seaweed," says Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams.  You will notice the greens all have a blue tinge like turquoise and teals, as in this room with SW "Watery" on the walls.

Cozy Kitchen20 of the Coziest Kitchens Around
One of my kitchens was recently featured in this HOUZZ article about cozy kitchens.
"What makes a kitchen cozy? It's the kind of place where you want to hang out in your PJs with a cup of hot cocoa. It's a place where families gather to go over their days and eat dinner together. It's that kitchen where everyone at the party inevitably winds up gathering. While there are plenty of different elements that can bring the cozy, it's ultimately the right combination of them that makes a kitchen warm and inviting. Let's take a look."  Click on photo of the kitchen to read the rest of the article.

White Oak Barn
Instead of adding to landfills when an old barn or building is torn down, NewLifeHardwoods repurposes the old wood taken from ancient American forests into beautiful and durable wood flooring.  Like the American Black Walnut they harvested from under plywood decking in an antique chicken coop-turned auction house.  And the prices will surpise you.
This antique wood is from very old trees/forests that have been stripped from our country forever.  By reusing this wood from turn of the century barns and homes, we are not only getting a product far superior to new wood, denser and longer boards, but avoid using more environmental resources.   Learn more.. including contemporary applications!

Did You Know?  For every degree you lower your thermostat in winter, you save about two percent off your heating bill. That can add up to big savings! Click here for more energy saving tips.
