Make Your Holidays Fun and Easy November 2010
Greetings!

We survived the summer heat and our reward is this glorious fall weather.  The days are getting shorter and it's time to start planning for the holidays, if you haven't already.

I don't know about you, but I feel more inspired to get out and explore new activities and start new projects with the weather crisp and cool.  For instance, I toured the Symphony Designer Showhouse last weekend.  I highly recommend finding time to support the symphony by checking out The House in Victory Park before it ends this Sunday.  Several colleagues from my ASID Peer Table group designed marvelous rooms in this high-rise that has great scenic views of the Dallas skyline.  Click on the article below for more information.

In this issue, you will find tips for getting your home ready for the upcoming holidays.  Holiday Home Tours are a great way to start and I have listed two below that I never want to miss.  A client's home is in the Lake Highlands Tour, which also includes a holiday market and lunch.  You can get inspired to decorate for the holidays, enjoy lunch with friends and check some holiday gifts off your shopping list.  Multi-tasking at it's best!

If you need help with getting your home ready for the holidays, I have listed some tips below to get your started.  To help make your holidays fun and easy, I am offering Holiday Home Gift Cards - 2 hour in-home consultation for $250.00.  Before or after holiday options available.  Buy two and keep one for yourself.  I look forward to hearing from you.  214-349-9769

Enjoy the Holidays,

Getting Your Home Ready for the Holidays

This year commit to going festive for the holidays by using these tips:

1.  PICK A THEME- ANY THEME.  Something that has special meaning to you or your family.  Texas Rangers, colors from your alma mater or a unique combo you saw in a store window or magazine; elegant, rustic, contemporary, vintage.  You can even have themes in different rooms that reflect the rooms color scheme.  If you use a color theme, vary the size, shape and texture of the ornaments on your tree to make it interesting.

2.  HAVE A LITTLE DECORATION IN EACH ROOM.

This really makes everyone get in the holiday mood.  Don't forget the Powder Bath.  In the kitchen, decorate a small tree on the corner of the counter with small utensils.   A small tree in the kids bedrooms can be decorated with miniature toys, dolls, or sports items and twinkling lights.  One year I brought a rosemary tree indoors and decorated it with vintage Santa paper dolls and miniature ornaments and lights.

3.  EDIT FROM PREVIOUS YEARS.  Donate decorations that don't suit your current lifestyle or taste unless you can use them in new ways giving a totally different effect.  Throw out anything that is worn out or broken that can't be repaired or reused.

4.  EDIT EVERYDAY ITEMS TO MAKE ROOM FOR HOLIDAY DECORATIONS.  To avoid a cluttered, chaotic feel, you may need to move some furniture to other rooms or the garage to make room for the tree.  If you add Christmas plates or collections to a shelf or tabletop remove random picture frames and other accessories to make room for your theme related items.

5. GO ON HOME TOURS. One of my favorite things about the holidays is going on home tours.  It's a fun way to sneak a peek into different homes, get great ideas and inspiration for holiday decorating, as well as support good causes.  Here are just a few:
