"Fourth of July" Hot ideas  July 2009
Greetings!

Are you ready for a big 4th of July celebration?  I hope this newsletter will inspire you to celebrate with a big bang!  Whether it's watching the fireworks in Addison's Kaboom town on July 3rd with the Cavanaugh Flight Museum Warbird flyover, barbequing on the grill in the backyard with friends and family or cooling off in a refreshing pool, kick-back and enjoy your freedom and celebrate our nation's independence.
See my review below on Denise Gee's Southern Cocktails book for thirst-quinching drinks and tasty appetizers.  She and her husband, Robert Peacock have raised the bar for Southern style living.  Their book is a must-have for entertaining.  Let me know your favorite recipes and how this book has inspired your own celebrations of Southern hospitality!
Finally, see the Before and After photos below of a bedroom that has been released from the darkness.  If you have rooms like this in your home that you would like updated, check out my website for ideas or call me and we can discuss your needs, budget and make a plan.  My gift is interpreting and translating your dreams into reality!
Happy 4th!

Southern CocktailsSouthern Cocktails: Dixie Drinks, Party Potions, and Classic Libations by Denise Gee
I have the pleasure of knowing Denise Gee and her husband, Robert Peacock, the photographer of this book.  They are the most adorable, southern couple: relaxed, gracious, and charming.  This book is their perfect tribute to the cocktail hour, one of the South's most cherished traditions.  I highly recommend it for your 4th of July entertaining.
Denise covers everything you need: how to set up your bar, recipes for classics like the Mint Julip and the Hurricane, as well as the more modern like Peach Mojito and Blueberry Martini's, even recipes for delectible nibbles such as Devilish Eggs and Sweet and Sassy Pecans.  You will even find help with toasts that will "get-the-party-started".  Click here to read more about this book.  After you buy it, let me know your favorites and how this book has inspired your expressions of Southern hospitality!
By the way, Robert has told me they have another book coming out next spring called "Porch Parties"!  Here's a toast to the freedom of creative expression!

LUNCHEON AND FUNDRAISER
It was such fun designing a Thomas the Tank Engine chair for Dallas Casa's 2nd Annual Cherish the Children luncheon.  The event was held on April 2nd at the Old Red Courthouse.  It was a huge success with 220 attendees.  35 chairs were decorated by local designers and retailers, benefitting Dallas children in need.  All chairs were sold, raising over $87,000 for Dallas CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates).
Dallas Casa advocates assist abused children in protective care so they may find safe, permanent homes where they can thrive.  To learn more about Dallas Casa and how you can be involved, click here or call Sara John at 214-827-9603 x272.

Testimonial
"Dona, everything has exceeded my expectations (which were really high to begin with).  You really have an amazing talent and I'm so lucky to have you as my designer.  I don't think anyone else could beautify my house the way you have.  I'm truly appreciative!
BTW, Kris couldn't stop talking about the piece you found for the upstairs sitting room and my mom actually gasped when she saw it.  You're awesome!"

This bedroom was dramatically transformed by creating a new look around the client's existing bedding.  The walls were painted Benjamin Moore's "Deer Path" #1047.  A new upholstered headboard covered in rich turquoise linen with nailhead trim creates continuity with the adjoining sitting room.  Light filters through the woven wood shades and provide texture as well as privacy.  Click here or on photo to see close-up of this room and more of this historic home in Fort Worth.  Photos by Robert M. Peacock.
