The following quote was given to me at our son, Ryan's, christening 10 years ago. It still earns a place of prominence in our home to serve as a reminder when I take myself and the role of mother too seriously. What an indescribable gift it is to love any child, one of our greatest joys in life! Feel free to share this, especially with those caring for children or just appreciating some mothering themselves.
How to LOVE a Child
Be there. Say yes as often as possible. Let them bang pots & pans. If they're crabby, put them in water. If they're unlovable, love yourself. Realize how important it is to be a child. READ BOOKS OUT LOUD WITH JOY. Remember how small they really are. GIGGLE A LOT. Surprise them. Say YES as much as possible. Teach feelings. HUGS TREES. Go find puppies & kiss them. Make lots of forts with blankets. Imagine yourself to be magic. Reveal your own dreams. Search out the positive. KEEP THE GLEAM IN YOUR EYE. Express your love. HANDLE WITH CARING. SING A LOT. Watch for angels. Watch snails.
