SPRUCING UP FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Dona Rosene Interiors     HERE ARE SOME SIMPLE THINGS THAT MAKE A DRAMATIC CHANGE AND CREATE A FESTIVE HOME TO ENTERTAIN YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

1. Freshen up with a new paint color!  Call for your in-home paint consultation and I will show you what a difference paint can make.

2. Add unique and interesting pillows to your sofa or chairs.  As my clients know, these are more than "just" pillows.  A fabulous pillow can TOTALLY make a room!  This is not a place to skimp on dollars.  They must be down/blend filled.

3.  Change your artwork.  Add a new piece or move around what you have.  Each piece of art has a unique effect in a different location or room so look at your art from a new perspective.

4.  LAMPS.  Don't forget this important piece of jewelry for your decor.  There are so many fun new lamps out on the market.  Have a lamp made out of a special object like a vase or sculpture.  You can even freshen up the lamps you love with a new shade trimmed in a tasteful, understated trim to add that finished detail.

CFL'S: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Thanks to Kathy Adcock-Smith for sharing this enlightening article on Compact Florescents.

Don't let reports of mercury in CFLs discourage you from using energy-efficient light bulbs. While it's true that the bulbs do contain tiny amounts of mercury, it's also important to remember that problems only arise when bulbs break at home (and elsewhere) or in a landfill.
Here's how to responsibly and effectively deal with both issues.
Disposal
Recycling is a cinch now that all Home Depot and Ikea stores offer free take-back programs.
Clean Up
No need to panic if a bulb breaks. Just follow these strategies from the Environmental Protection Agency and a study conducted by Maine's Dept of Environmental Protection.
  • Air out the room. Open the windows and have everyone leave for 15 minutes. Be careful not to walk through the breakage on your way out. Close the door behind you. Turn off central air-conditioning/heating system if you have one.

Testimonial
"Dona, everything has exceeded my expectations (which were really high to begin with).  You really have an amazing talent and I'm so lucky to have you as my designer.  I don't think anyone else could beautify my house the way you have.  I'm truly appreciative!
BTW, Kris couldn't stop talking about the piece you found for the upstairs sitting room and my mom actually gasped when she saw it.  You're awesome!"
