Greetings!
The holidays are over. The kids have gone back to school. As you were putting away your holiday decorations, did you have visions of something new for your home? Often this is a time when people think about new intentions they would like to create for themselves in the New Year. The word intention is a much better feeling word than resolution, don't you think? Intentions are creative, positive and stimulate excitement and inspire us to create a better life.
Are there some intentions you have or would like to have for your home? Would you like it to be more invigorating, rejuvenating, pleasing to your senses or perhaps more functional or relaxing? Would you like to feel uplifted when you come home? Like you can totally relax and leave the cares of the world outside your door? Does your home feed your soul? These are just some of the results I co-create with clients every day as an interior designer.
Last year I completed training in Feng Shui Friendly Residential Design. I am passionate about using FSF Design and offering my clients designs that not only enhance their lives but also support them. Call for your home's Feng Shui Friendly Design Evaluation- 214-349-9769.
And if you love to feed your soul through delicious food, you will be delighted when you attend the cooking class featuring Tapas at the state-of-the-art Sub-Zero/Wolf Living Kitchen in Carrollton next Tuesday. See below for info and to RSVP.
Many Blessings!

WHAT'S "HOT" IN THE DESIGN INDUSTRY
Feng Shui - Part 1
Feng Shui (pronounced fung-SHWAY) is the 5,000 year old practice of balancing energy or ch'i in homes and businesses for harmony, happiness and prosperity. It's no wonder Feng Shui is exploding in popularity with success from icons like Oprah, Donald Trump and even the Wall Street Journal. What do they know that you don't?
We are all affected by our surroundings on an emotional level, but not always consciously. You know that room that just doesn't feel "quite right" - it drains your energy and somehow pushes you out of it. And then there's that special chair you never want to get out of or that room where you just feel content and always seem to have pleasant feelings. Let's face it, when we feel good, we are more energetic, cooperative, focused and productive.
If all this talk of ch'i and energy sounds too esoteric for you, remember Einstein proved the "aliveness" of all living and non-living objects with his theory of molecular activity. Feng Shui involves the balancing of opposites (yin and yang), as well as balancing the 5 Elements of Nature- Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood. Every interior object's element is determined by it's color, shape and material.
Negative architectural ch'i can be modified by the arrangement of furniture, addition of living things like plants, animals, running water, mirrors, etc. One of the attractive aspects of Feng Shui is that dramatic changes to the environment and those using it can be made without the necessity of a drastic remodeling project.
Stay Tuned- next month for more on the worthwhile design trend and learn more about creating positive energy in your home or workplace. |

Q: We are in the process of updating our home with a fresh coat of paint. What color should be paint our ceilings and mouldings? Is white still "in" for the ceiling and trim?
A: If you are using a light to medium color on your walls, I often recommend using the same color on the ceiling. If your wall color is a deeper shade that you feel is too dark or too much for the room, I would mix the wall color with 50% white. If you prefer something neutral I would recommend the trim color but using the wall color creates a warm, enveloping feeling and actually makes the space feel larger.
On the trim, I usually prefer a slightly warmer neutral like Sherwin Williams "Antique White".
