Beyond The Front Door

Issue #8                                      www.shelleysoles.ca
December 2008
Greetings!

Ol' Man Winter sure has us in his grips this month!  Hopefully this deep freeze won't last too long, but it looks like we'll be putting up with it for the holiday season.  It was certainly a shock as I just returned from a wonderful week of R&R on a beach in Mexico's Riviera Maya.  No phone, no computer - it was a slice of heaven that I highly recommend to all of you!

I love this season and I'm looking forward to cooking the turkey for the first time in several years.  Family is coming from eastern and western Canada, and I can't wait to see my grandkids faces as they rush to the tree to see what Santa brought!

From my house to yours - I send warm wishes to you and your family along with health, happiness and prosperity for the coming year.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!!

Signature
Don't Drink and Drive

While driving services have been around for a while, there's a new company in Calgary called Plan B Designated Driving.  What's different? They pride themselves on having the shortest wait times in the industry, with 5 teams of two people, working from 4pm to 4am to get people home in their own vehicle with the other driver following.   Write this number down - 403-457-4300 - and keep it in your wallet - don't take chances!
This Month's Discovery

The 7-Foot Upside-Down Pre-Lit Christmas Tree

No space for your Christmas tree?  Here's a unique idea.... this 7' pre-lit fir is inverted to ensure a smaller footprint for less-spacious areas, and allowing more room for the accumulation of presents underneath. Originally designed for specialty stores to display delicate ornaments using a minimum of floor space, the unusual tapering shape allows the tree to stand in places that do not accommodate a traditional holiday tree, such as between two armchairs or in a corner. The trees weighted base provides extra stability to prevent tipping and leaning. The inverted shape makes it easier to see ornaments, which hang away from the dense needles and do not get lost in the foliage. According to the Hammacher website, this is so popular it's sold out this year!
Real Estate Update

Not only are we seeing evidence of typical seasonal slowdown in the industry, but it's being magnified by the uncertainty among consumers due to the economic challenges in the world today.  It's not just affecting real estate, but all consumer spending.

Prices are down and it's an excellent time to buy, especially for bargain hunters who intend to stay put for the long term - it is not a market for those who want to 'flip' and make a quick profit.

Look at this Calgary comparison of the median price for single family homes in November of recent past years.  We saw huge increases that could not be sustained and now the market is attempting to correct itself.

People keep asking me if prices will continue to go down. They may for the short term, but you'll only know for sure when they start to climb again!

Until next month...in the meantime, if you or anyone you know is looking to buy, sell or invest in real estate, I hope you will feel confident passing my name along to them.  My business is growing because of great people like you, and I appreciate that you trust your referrals to me, knowing that they get first-class, personal service and results!
