Beyond The Front Door

Greetings!
Shelley Med 2

I hope you've managed to keep warm during the past few weeks - only in Calgary could temperatures just barely above zero feel downright balmy!

If you've been in hibernation, the Giants won the SuperBowl, Tiger's on a roll again, the Lululemon sale had 2 hour line-ups for 2 days in sub-zero temperatures (what were those people thinking?) and I'm hoping that Calgary Flames defenceman Dion Phaneuf is looking for a great REALTORŪ with that incredible 6 year contract!

Calgary Boasts Hot Retail Areas

It was interesting to read in the Calgary Herald in January that this city is home to several of the hottest spots in street retail in the country.  A leading commercial real estate company ranked the top 10 urban street retail venues in Canada and Calgary scored 3 of the 10!   Here's the list with rent per square foot:

1.  Bloor St. West, Toronto, Yonge St to Avenue Rd   ($250)
2.  Robson St, Vancouver, Burrard to Thurlow   ($225)
3.  Ste. Catherine St, Montreal, Mountain to McGill  ($150)
4.  Queen St. West, Toronto, University to Spadina  ($125)
5.  Stephen Ave Walk Calgary, Centre to 3rd St.SW  ($75)
6.  Government St, Victoria, Inner Harbour to View ($70)
7.  17th Ave Sw, Calgary 6th St to 11th St   ($60)
8.  Kensington Rd NW, Calgary, 10th St to 12th NW ($45)
9.  Spring Garden Rd, Halifax, S.Park to Brunswick ($45)
10.  Whyte Ave, Edmonton, 103rd St to 105 St. ($40)

With plans for the new 'main street' retail zone at Stampede Park slated for completion by 2011, Calgary is fast becoming a big player in the retail world.Watch out Toronto!!

Check out www.ediblearrangements.com

Real Estate Update

Housing Market Set to Catch Spring Fever, Calgary Herald, January 26.

It appears to me that this headline caught many buyers attention a couple of weeks ago.  Most people know that the real estate market heats up in the spring and many buyers who have been contemplating a purchase for a while are actively looking now trying to beat that rush.  From a seller's point of view, usually if you can sell at the end of spring, you'll likely get the best price of the year.  If you are thinking about selling, now's the time to start cleaning up and clearing out.  Next month I'll share some tips on getting your home ready to list.

Until next month...
