Dear Myra,
Thanks for the beautiful and meaningful Lenten and Easter services at Redeemer. I can't believe I'm saying this, but they may have been my last time to experience these. It's not because of traffic or because I live so far away. It's simply about the hassle and expense of parking.

Refuge Update
A new addition to the family.
Story with contributions from Melanie Johnson, Donna Matern, Jannean Bello, Annette Forster, and the Redeemer Refugee Resettlement Team
Lily Paw and Aung Ko Ko are mom and dad of the Karen Family whose resettlement our church co-partners with Lutheran Services of Georgia (LSG). We assist LSG in its church wide mission to help in resettlement of refugee families who have been displaced and have no place to go. Each member of the RRR team and our church members and leaders have been with this beautiful family every step of the way since their arrival from oppression in Burma and a camp in Thailand to America last fall.

Hidden Saints
Werner Kuettner's Carvings of Faith
When Redeemer's magnificent Lenten cross with the crucified Jesus needed to be repaired, Pastor Sims (senior pastor at the time) called upon long-time Redeemer member, Werner Kuettner. The intricately carved body of Jesus was missing a thumb and a nail from his feet. Werner made the delicate repairs and continued to create works of art for Redeemer. He has carved crosses for pastors throughout the years, pipe organs for Organist Emeritus Raymond Martin and Director of Music Emeritus Mary Hinely. Hanging in the Sims Atrium are his framed composite of Redeemer symbols and a carving of the Great Redemption Window (see accompanying photo).

Recent FOOD DRIVE helps FILL Shelves
The shelves at MAC were very full for the items they requested and with overflow as well. Springtime through summer is a critical time for donations of food and supplies. When school is out, MAC sees an increased need from families who rely on the school lunch program. Toiletries were also collected for the Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency (ACSS). Although our donations were few, ACSS distributes the toiletries in December and there is time for other collections. For information about MAC, ACSS and Redeemer's other community partners, please contact Outreach Board Chairman, Katy Hurley at khurley@cmlawfirm.com. |

Nicaragua Medical Mission Trip 2012 Our 13th Trip!
We are heading to Central America again this summer to provide basic medical care and spiritual blessing to the poor in Nicaragua. It is an experience that will truly expand your faith. Please consider going - we are especially looking for pharmacists and those with medical training; but support people with no medical training are essential, too.
We will be going June 8-15. The cost is $1000 (most people raise these funds).
We also need help with our "home team"- people who help gather and pack supplies. No airline travel required! For more information, or to sign-up, contact Sandy McGaffigan mcgaffigansp@comcast.net or 404-352-9935

Redeeming G.R.A.C.E.
Task Force Members Reach Out to Sexually Exploited Children
Task Force members Kristin Sheffield and Amy Carpenter (L-R in photo) have become involved with Wellspring Living which provides the only approved residential program for child victims of commercial exploitation in Georgia. Redeemer's Task Force selected Wellspring Living from over 60 community partners working to end this atrocity in our state. Serving as an academic mentor to these girls (ages 12-17) in a home-schooled environment, Amy shares, "I felt called to work directly with the girls. I am a good example of 'God equips the called, not calls the equipped.' The girls need consistent mentors who simply care about them in addition to helping them with school work. I have been totally amazed by their great self-motivation to regain lost months and years in middle and high school." In addition to education, Wellspring Living's programs of therapy, life skills and spiritual renewal give the girls tools for recovery of body, soul and spirit.

Camp Hope Fiesta is Coming!
Camp Hope, an innovative day camp ministry, makes its Redeemer debut this summer. Want to Enjoy Worship Music Even More?

Our Redeemer services are filled with lots of music, all glorious and worth savoring; but it can be hard to concentrate on the music during offering if you are fumbling in your purse or coat pocket for your envelope or check. What's a music lover to do? Try using a little technology to help you make your offering of support for God's work through Redeemer's ministries. You can send your offering using your bank's on-line check services; or if you don't bank that way already, a program called Simply Giving might be right for you. Your gift comes directly to Redeemer as regularly as you set it up (e.g., monthly) and, very importantly, even if you miss a Sunday of beautiful music, you know your offering to God comes to church. Questions? Contact Jennifer Isaacson, Director of Financial Information: jisaacson@redeemer.org. |
