GCA Trains Poorest of the Poor in the World

Mercy ShipIn Between the two church planting training events in Ghana and Togo last month, the GCA team received security clearance to board the massive Africa Mercy Ship docked for one year in the port of Lome, Togo. When the medical doctor who gave the tour of the surgery rooms was asked how many mercy ships there are today, he answered "There is one left and you're on it."

He was then asked what other poverty stricken regions of the world they serve. He responded, "We focus only on West Africa because this region collectively represents the highest concentration of the poorest and sickest people in the world. Knowing this painful reality, GCA began the training conference in Ghana this year, as usual, by quoting  the words of Jesus who first announced the nature of his ministry by reading from the prophet Isaiah:

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the
oppres
sed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor (Lk 4:17-19)."

The GCA Three-Fold Ministry Strategy for addressing needs of the poor in Africa (& the world) includes equipping indigenous church "leaders of leaders"-- in their own languages -- to start, grow and multiply Gospel-Centered Churches (vs. Prosperity-Gospel Churches) that:

1) Boldly proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom winning the lost to Christ, AND...

2) Radically disciple those who receive Christ by faith in the deeper truths of God's   Word, BUT ALSO . . .

3) Carry out relentless acts of mercy and justice that not only include providing immediate care (giving someone fish to eat), but also long-term care (teaching them how to fish).

The Church is the Hope of the World!
By Steve Childers
The only true hope for a desperately needed widespread awakening in West Africa and the world can be found in the One who says, "I am making everything new!" (Revelation 21:5). The good news is that the radical, renewing work of God manifested in Jesus Christ in the first century, is continuing today by God's Holy Spirit through His Church.

This is why the Church is the hope of the world! The Church is the only institution in the world both designed and equipped by God for the spiritual, cultural and social renewal of all nations. Jesus said, "I will build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matt 16:18b).

God has ordained that His Kingdom comes with transformational power into every sphere of life primarily through the Church.

A Poor Man Cries Out in the Streets!

During this trip to Ghana, a very thin, sickly adult African man was seen screaming and crying out in the middle of the streets, as loudly as he could, "Why God?! Why?! Why do I still not have food for me and my family? You promised to prosper me. Why after all these years do I only have this!"

Then he thrust his hands toward the sky holding up some small bag of food that look like rice. This man represents literally millions of African people (and the poor around the globe) who are being poisoned spiritually by a false gospel of "health, wealth and prosperity"-coming mostly from the USA
PRAYER NEEDS:
  • For God's protection and blessing on Steve's training ministry for Indonesia August 20-September 1
  • For $25,000 in pledged monthly giving by December 31

Because of the faithful prayers and support of people like you, I had the privilege of sharing the Good News of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ on your behalf with African national "leaders of leaders" in both Ghana and Togo (in French & English):

Good news for the Lost! We can be saved from sin's penalty through faith in Christ,
but also

Good news for the Found! We can be saved from sin's corruption of our hearts, and

Good news for the Poor! We can be saved from sin's corruption of our world...including poverty.

To date thousands of church leaders from more than 200 denominations representing over 50 countries in five languages on five continents have been impacted by GCA training.
