Joliet Montessori School News BriefAugust 26, 2010
Greetings!

It's been wonderful to see all our children so excited about returning to school!

Many thanks to the P.O.D. Committee for a wonderful night!  Highlights of our evening will be shared in our September Communication Envelope.
Speaking of which...

Effective communication with our families is a priority here at JMS.

The first Thursday of every month is "Brown Envelope" day.  The monthly Communication Envelope contains important documentation including the monthly newsletter, extended care invoices (if applicable), Scholastic book orders, and HSA forms and fliers.  Please sign the envelope and return to the office within one week.

Newsletters and news briefs will be communicated electronically unless a paper copy is specifically requested.

Please see below for our updated phone extensions.
Paperwork, Paperwork!

All administrative forms should have been submitted to the office by now.  New families can still submit their child(ren)'s paperwork on their designated start date.

**  Registration materials

**  Emergency Contact Information Sheets

**  All health examinations, with the exception of pending dental and eye exams.

We invite you to join us for our "Welcome Back Picnic" to be held on Sun, Sep 12, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  This year it will be held at the school so we can fully enjoy our outdoor environment.

We're really excited about GOING GREEN this year! We're asking everyone to bring their own reusable plates, utensils and cups. Let's reduce our footprint!

Please bring a snack or dessert to share. We will have a cooler with water. When planning food for your family, keep in mind that grills will not be available.

If you would like to volunteer to help with the picnic, please contact Vicki Hartmann at v_hartmann@yahoo.com. New families, volunteering is really a great way to meet other families and learn more about the JMS community!

We're looking for a Scholastic parent helper.  Scholastic book order forms come in big books that must be broken down and collated into the order form packets that go home with families.  This can be done at the school, or taken home and processed at your convenience.  Contact the office at 741-4180, if interested.
Extra-Curricular Activities

The extra-curricular calendar is now being planned.

Do you have a specific skill set, or an idea for a class you would like to share with our children?

If so, please complete and submit the Extra-curricular Proposal form.
JMS Family Directory

The updated directory will be distributed in the September Communication Envelope.  The directory is intended to be a resource for our families to facilitate communication and extra-curricular family events.  Please do not use the directory for business solicitations.
Adolescent Business Venture

A signficant piece of the Adolescent curriculum calls for the students to gain practical, real-world entrepreneurial experiences.  These are not 'fundraisers.' They are specifically designed to assist the adolescent students in understanding the concepts inherent in business, including accounting, procuring, receiving, distribution, marketing, overhead and management costs, profit margins, etc.

This year, they will participating in (among other things) Olive Living, an organic natural food co-op.  Orders can be placed at jamie@oliveliving.net and are due Fri, Aug 27.  Watch your newsletters for additional details concerning future orders and other adolescent business ventures.
