The Arts - Music

The Tone Bars

This material consists of 25 tone bars covering two octaves, each mounted in a black or white folder according to its sound, two boards painted to resemble a piano keyboard. Its purpose is to help the children understand that a major scaled pattern may begin on any pitch as long as the pattern of the major scale is used to choose the rest of the pitches for the scale.

Work with the Tone Bars should begin after much work with the Bells. This results in the children being able to match and grade the full set of Bells and have some experience with the writing and reading of music. The initial presentation aids the children in understanding the major scale pattern. Over time, the children will also be introduced to sharps, flats, and minor scales, as well as degrees of the scale, intervals and key signatures.

Manna Orders
From now until the end of the school year, Manna orders will be placed every Monday.

VISA cards are temporarily unavailable from Manna, due to a recall in order to remove expiration dates from the cards. They should be available for the May 10 order. Watch for further details as they become available.

Volunteer Opportunities

We have lots of opportunities for parents and students to become involved in our spring event.

** Anyone who is willing to donate time to sewing costumes

** If you have any material that may be lying around that you would not mind donating to the Costume Design Team, or any costumes that may relate to Alice in Wonderland.

** Anyone who is willing to donate time for building the set the weeks of May 3-14 - exact days and times will be posted. Please watch the newsletter for details. This is very important behind the scenes work, and is deeply appreciated.

** We need some props! If you have any we can borrow or are willing to donate these items, that would be wonderful. Just let us know if you would like them back after the play. We could use a cherry picker, pink flamingos (golf club size), pocket watch, misc tea set, 10 magna doodles or small chalk boards.

Thanks to Mark Streitz for his time and the use of his dingo.

We would love some more help to dig holes to install poles w/cement for the peace pole, the tetherball set and the 4 x 4's for the birdhouses.

We could also use one automatic post hole digger.

Medication

We recognize that occasionally medication must be administered during the school hours. Over the counter medications will be administered only when authorized by parent/guardian. All presciption medication must be provided to the office in its original container. A completed and signed authorization form must accompany all prescription medications. Prescription medicine will not be administered without this form.
