The Bells
Dr. Montessori designed a specific material to help her primary children identify the quality of sound and pitch. A set of black and white bells correspond to the black and white keys on the piano. They are alike in every detail except pitch, which can be heard when the child strikes them gently. A similar set of brown bells corresponds exactly in pitch to the black and white set. The exercise consists of pairing the bells and later grading them in the order of the regular scale and then the half-tone scale. The children eventually build not only the scales, but little melodies as well, using the range of the bells. This type of ear training is extremely beneficial for any further pursuit of music. |
Volunteer :) Opportunities |
We need two people to help dig holes to install poles w/cement for the peace pole, the tetherball set and the 4 x 4 's for the birdhouses.
We could also use one automatic post hole digger and a one-man walk behind dingo if anyone has one to share.
Please call the office if you can help. Thanks! |

Spring Play Volunteer Opportunities |
We have lots of opportunities for parents and students to become involved in our spring event.
** Anyone who is willing to donate time to sewing costumes
** If you have any material that may be lying around that you would not mind donating to the Costume Design Team, or any costumes that may relate to Alice in Wonderland.
** Anyone who is willing to donate time for building the set the weeks of May 3-14 - exact days and times will be posted. Please watch the newsletter for details. This is very important behind the scenes work, and is deeply appreciated.
** We need some props! If you have any we can borrow or are willing to donate these items, that would be wonderful. Just let us know if you would like them back after the play. We could use a cherry picker, pink flamingos (golf club size), pocket watch, misc tea set, 10 magna doodles or small chalk boards.
If you are able to do any of the above, please call Jamie at 815-741-8655 or 815-405-6728. | | Thank You ! |
Ms. Viscovic's class would like to thank the Kostyra Family for the "River Model." The River Model is a wooden base on which the student will build a 'river' in clay and dirt and demonstrate the environmental work of water. It's beautiful! Thanks!
Meredith Spesia for the many hours of time dedicated to the preparation of the house next door.
To the Outdoor Environment committee and others for beginning the work on the outdoor environment, including Jeni White, Kathy Baltz and Stephanie Morris. We appreciate your time.
Jenny Dolph for the time and expertise devoted to the adolescent class in their sewing class, preparing the curtains and window dressings. |
