 Work as Play

"The child can only develop by means of experience in his environment.  We call such experience work."

Children have a very different attitude toward work than we do.  They tend to pretend 'house' or 'doctor' or 'restaurant'.  We usually don't see children playing 'coffee break' or 'vacation.'  This points to the great difference between the way we think of work and the way they think of work.  Adults work with an external aim, but children work to meet internal motivations.  They flourish when they are allowed to engage in work free from negative external preconceptions about its appeal.

Whatever we choose to call it, work or play, children in activity are constructing the 'self.'

Friendly Carpool Reminders

** Please do not pull directly into the driveway during carpool hours, even if there are no cars in line.  Cars are often en route.

** Help us be gracious neighbors.  Do not U-turn on the streets or use our neighbors driveways to turn around.

** In order to minimize congestion and ensure children's safety, the parking lot is closed during carpool.  If you must walk up, please park on Root Street.

Thank you for your cooperation!
