A View of the Classroom -
Geography
"The Pin Maps"
The Pin Maps challenge the elementary children to master the names of countries, capital cities and flags of the countries of each of the continents.

Each map has a set of labels printed on a card, attached to a pin.  These pins are then placed in the appropriate hole on the map.  A set of control charts allows the children to check their own work.

Greetings!

A Word from Miss Francis' class

Dear Parents,

We are happy to say that the bake sale was a huge success!  We want to thank all of you for bringing in your delicious baked goods.  Thank you for being such great customers.  It was a real treat serving you.  At the beginning of the sale, we had so many plates it was hard to imagine that all of them would be sold, but somehow we sold every last one!  With your help, we made an amazing total of $ 732.00.  We gave all the money we earned to the Haiti Relief Program through the American Red Cross.  We are very proud to say that we made a difference.  Thanks again for all your help.

Sincerely,
Miss Francis' Class

Join us for our Winter Sunday Afternoon Family Event at the Joliet Park District's Multi Purpose Center on Sun, Feb 21 from 2 - 4 p.m.  This event is designed to allow all of us to run off the winter energy we've been storing, while spending the afternoon with other JMS families.

Child care will not be provided. Please plan on staying at the event with your children.  Food is not permitted in the gym area, bring your own water.  If you have jump ropes, hula hoops or other fun things for the kids to use in the gym, we encourage you to bring them along. The park district will provide us with sports balls.

We are still looking for a few volunteers to help with clean up (stay until the area is cleaned up like the way we found it). (Thank you to the Kozlowski family for volunteering to help set up!)

If you are able to help, contact Lauren DeKlerk at (815) 955-4087 or
fitzspark@sbcglobal.net by Feb 5.
Thank You

Class Assignments and Sibling Placement

In all programs, siblings will be placed into classes based on what is needed to create an optimal dynamic.  During the admissions process and parent-teacher conferences, families may discuss their particular situation with the director, leaving open the possibility for siblings to be placed in the same class, or to have them in separate classes, when it is in the best interest of the children and the class dynamic.

The primary faculty determines the placement of students and siblings in the primary program.  The elementary faculty, considering recommendations from the primary faculty as applicable, places incoming elementary students.  In all cases, the directors strive to maintain the appropriate balance and optimum classroom dynamics.
