A View of the Montessori Classroom

  Computer Usage

Dr. Montessori said "Never give more to the mind than to the hand."  As a scientist, she knew that brain development requires handling and manipulation of specifically designed materials for optimum learning.  The entire curriculum is based on this simple, yet very true, fact.

Thus computers are used sparingly in the elementary level and not at all in the primary.

By the time the children reach the adolescent level, they have moved into the third plane of development and are regularly working in the abstract.  Consequently, they are familiar and comfortable with the computers and use them regularly for research and composition purposes.

Greetings!

Prospective Parents

Do you know anyone who is interested in learning more about Montessori or researching possible educational opportunities for their children?  We have several prospective parent education events coming up.

On Thu, Jan 21, Ms. Jan will hold an Informational Coffee for anyone who would like to meet and have their questions answered in an informal, casual environment.

On Sat, Feb 6, JMS will hold their annual Mid-Winter Open House.  Parents can meet tour the school, meet the faculty and pick up admission materials.

Both events begin at 9:30 a.m. and reservations can be made by phoning the school.

Class Placement

The JMS faculty is responsible for the placement of children into specific classrooms.  Class lists are determined by the directors to best serve the needs of all of our children.  The age, gender and Montessori experience of the children involved are all considered when establishing each classroom and these decisions are made with great care.

Once placements have been made, the class lists are considered final, and requests made by parents to change classes will not be honored.  If you have questions or concerns, please discuss them with the Head of School prior to submitting your registration materials.
