Greetings!
November?
I can't believe we are this far into 2009 already.
However, this crisp weather is convincing
me that we are knee-deep into autumn
.....and autumn leaves. Obviously, the excitement of the past month
has been the unbelievable progress being made
on the house next door. Everyday we notice
something new coming down or going up. If you haven't walked around to the back parking lot, you may not have noticed the addition going up in back. With the garage removed and the extension added, the west side of the house will be a "great room" serving the
educational needs of the adolescents. Off the great
room will be the kitchen. Downstairs in front
will be their meeting room, and behind that on
the lower level will be the computer room. A conference room and offices will occupy the upper level. Several JMS families have attended each of our fall parent education evenings. It was great to see so many of our parents attending both the primary and the elementary sessions and then returning to hear about the adolescent experience, learning how Montessori educates the child through the first three planes of development. We were also happy that so many of our families had a chance to observe their student at work during the month of October. Now, following that experience, next week we will have our parent-director conferences. Finally, in this month of Thanksgiving,
let me say that I am thankful for each of you,
our JMS families, and for the privilege of having
your wonderful children in our school. Ms. Jan |

Community Service Project
Stars of Hope program provides hundreds of families with gifts during the holiday season. Joliet Montessori's participation in this program has become a school tradition.
This year, MorningStar Mission has designated a family of four to JMS who have provided a simple list of items they would like to have. Click here to see the list. A hard copy of this list is being sent home today in the Communication Envelope.
In order to avoid duplication, please contact
Lynn Gonzalez, at (815)230-2737, before your family
shops with the items you are interested in purchasing.
All unwrapped items must be turned in to the school by Thu, Nov 12. With the children having time off from the classroom the next several days, this is a great way to involve your entire family in a community service project we can all take to heart, especially during this time of year.
Stars of Hope Wrapping Event
Sunday, Nov 15, from 2-4 pm at the school for a fun afternoon of wrapping and a children's service project. This is a family friendly event, and we encourage parents to bring their children to model community service. Children will have the opportunity to help with the wrapping as well as to make Thank You cards for our community that the Development Office will use throughout the year.
Gift Wrapping Material Donations Needed
We are in need of wrapping paper, scotch tape, various size boxes, and ribbons for our wrapping event on Sun, Nov 15. If you are able to donate any of these items please drop them off through carpool by Thu, Nov 12.
Childcare will not be provided.
