| Our featured adoptable pet |
My name is "Dolly" and my tag number is #182. I am a belgian malinois mix spayed young lady only one year old! I'm an active, sweet girl who enjoys learning new activities. I'm interested in other dogs and I already know some commands and hand signals. I have excellent housetraining manners.
Come meet "Dolly" at the shelter during normal business hours. |
Another happy ending
|
We just celebrated our 13th anniversary with Gemma. Our vet estimated she was between 2 and 6 at adoption in Feb. 1999, so we split the difference and say she now is 17. We eventually had a doggie DNA test done and learned she is more Chow Chow than any other breed, with a bit of German Shepherd and even Pug thrown in! Gemma has been a wonderful, delightful companion, and we love her very much. A geriatric dog is a blessing in many ways. We thank you once again for rescuing her from the streets all those years ago. She certainly was meant to be our girlie! Annamarie D |

Greetings!
Thank you to everyone who jumped in and voted for us during the first round of the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. We made it into the Top 50 and are gearing up now for the main event this coming August, September and October. Each challenger will try to adopt out 300 more animals than the same time frame last year, and we'll need your support then, too, to encourage even more people to adopt their new best friend. Stay tuned!

Can cats & houseplants get along?
If your houseplants are looking a little ragged or your cat shows symptoms of illness, interaction between them could be the cause. Houseplants may be good for the health of a home but can be dangerous for our feline friends. It is possible, however, to create a level of détente between them. Read more. |

Is it time to renew your membership?
MCHS annual memberships come due either in May or October, depending on when you joined. If you're due for renewal now, you can make your payment via the renewal letter you received in the mail, or you may pay online. Membership is one of many ways you can demonstrate your own commitment to assuring the animals in our care find loving new homes. |
Top 10 pet toxins of 2011
Both known and unknown toxins can be found hiding in our houses and yards. In 2011, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) in Urbana, IL, fielded more than 165,900 phone calls about pets exposed to poisonous substances. Their website provides a detailed list.
