Is Your Whole Family Ready for an Emergency?
Emergency Preparedness
September is National Preparedness Month, and that includes being prepared to look after your pets as well as human family during a disaster. You may be instructed to evacuate from home or to shelter in place, depending on the situation and how your neighborhood is being affected.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, local and state authorities must include plans for household pets as part of their emergency sheltering plans in order to qualify for federal grant assistance during major disasters. To this end, MCHS is partnering with the Animal Services Division and other county offices to organize a County Animal Response Team (CART).

Find out how to develop your own plan at home and assemble emergency supply kits for you and your pets at www.mchumane.org/naturaldisasters.shtmlor www.ready.gov/america/getakit/pets.html.

Another Happy Tale

Happy Tale!

Simon's story is definitely a "Happy Tail" considering its sad beginning.

My boyfriend and I adopted Simon in March 2010 from MCHS. He was placed in a foster home after being in the shelter for a couple of days. According to his history, he was purchased from a pet store when he was 4 months old and given up to the shelter at 10 months old. The foster home was his 5th home in 10 months and we were to be his 6th.
