Greetings!

The Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) is leading the 10% Campaign which challenges you to spend 10 percent of your existing food dollars to support North Carolina food producers, businesses and communities.

Why 10 percent?
  • We spend about $35 billion a year on food. If we spent 10 percent - $1.05 per day locally - approximately $3.5 billion would be available in the local economy.
  • A vibrant local food economy will support farms, food and manufacturing businesses and create jobs.
  • Infusing fresh and flavorful fruits and vegetables into diets can significantly reduce diet-related diseases and long-term health care expenses for everyone.
We are fortunate to have a great "producer only" market at Matthews which makes it very easy to participate in the 10% Campaign. I am not only a vendor at the market but a customer as well for the items we don't produce at the farm (pork, beef, cheese, soap and baked goods). The new Wednesday market hours gives folks with Saturday morning commitments a chance to buy fresh and buy local too.

A good market day truly makes a difference in the lives of the vendor you patronize. Thanks to all of you that support us.
