Greetings!

This week my computer time is being spent updating the WindcrestOrganics.com website with new information and photos. So for this issue of our newsletter it's just the basics:

At the Market: The first round of our summer seedlings is coming to an end but we have started another set for succession planting. Remember, summer vegetable gardens can be planted until the week of July 4th to get harvests before frost. We have "replacements" for plants whose destiny was not to bear fruit due to deer, dogs, lawn crews, and bugs.

Now is the time to plant PUMPKINS for fall harvest. We have a great variety called "Howden" from the Howden farm in Sheffield, MA. This variety is called "the best Halloween pumpkin grown". It grows to 20-25 lbs.has deep ridges, a dark orange color and a strong vine "handle" when cut. Grow your own Halloween with the kids this year!

Lettuce mix at Windcrest FarmThe first of our BABY LETTUCE MIX makes it's debut at the Market. Most of the field grown lettuce in our area is "bolting" (getting bitter and producing seed) so the timing of our crop should be right on time.

We anticipate BLUEBERRIES in the next three weeks. If you are planning on freezing quantities for later use, let us know.

Are FIRE ANTS giving you problems in the yard and garden this year? Remember we have a fire ant control product available that is pet and people safe and approved for use in your organic garden. One bag treats 22 mounds for $14. Delivery to Matthews by pre-order only.

We hope to see you Saturday!

The only difference between stumbling blocks and steppingstones is the way in which we use them.
