Fresh produce at Windcrest Farm
Greetings!
Blueberries at Windcrest Farm
"Spring showers will bring flowers!" I'll be singing in the rain tomorrow morning at the Matthews Farmer's Market with a variety of blueberry bushes for your home orchard and romaine lettuce starts for field or container planting.

What is a home garden worth?
Roger Doiron at Kitchen Gardeners International calculated that he and his wife raised $2149.15 worth of produce on their 1600 sq. ft. garden in Maine in addition to raising three busy boys, managing two careers,  and volunteering in a school garden. Read Roger's very entertaining and informative story at www.kitchengardeners.org.

Blueberry Varieties - NC Grown

Blueberry Varieties Available at Windcrest Farm

1 gallon plants are 2 years old - $9.00; 2 gallon plants are 3 years old - $14.00.

Southern highbush varieties need less winter chilling to produce a crop and cannot tolerate temperatures much below zero degrees.

Rabbiteye bushes thrive in zones 7 through 9 and are known for their heat and drought tolerance.

Most blueberry varieties are self-fertile, but the largest fruits and yields are produced by cross-pollination. For this reason, it is advisable to plant at least two different varieties whose blooming periods overlap.
