The first of the summer squash is coming in and the last of the vegetable transplants are going out. Our six month old granddaughter Raquel, who is graduating from organic rice ceral to vegetables has sampled our yellow straightneck squash and given it her big approval. We will have Scallopini, Yellowneck and Zucchini squash available at Matthews.

The tomatoes in the hoophouse and in the field are looking wonderful. We have already had several snacks on the wonderful Washington Red and Gold Nugget cherry tomatoes. There will be plenty to go around soon!
We are so glad that Mother Nature has turned the dial down a bit on the thermostat and even blessed us with .5" of rain last night. We are hoping that signals the Shiitakes to come out for dinner.
Many of you have stopped by our booth to let us know how well your Windcrest Farm heirloom tomatoes are thriving. With all the news this week about another bacteria scare in our food system, I know you are thankful you have the ultimate local food source - your own backyard. Many people do not have the space and/or time to care for a garden so we are all fortunate to have the next best thing - a "producer-only" farmer's market. Thanks to our support, we farmers can continue to be there when you need us! |
