We are pleased to announce our 2011 Spring and Summer Workshop Series.

Our workshops are designed to provide education for professionals in our communities who work with children, teens, and young adults around issues of grief and loss.

The workshops are presented at our Arlington location from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Continuing education credits are available for participants.

Creating a Crisis Team & Plan of Action;

Helping Your Community Respond to Loss

Tuesday, March 15 or Tuesday, August 2

Working interactively, this workshop will focus on creating a 'crisis' or 'caring' team and a crisis protocol or plan of action. Empower your community and create a physically and emotionally safe environment in which children and adults can understand, grieve, commemorate, and go on when their community faces a crisis involving loss.

Strategies for Talking with Young Children about Death, Dying, and Loss

Saturday, April 2 or Tuesday, August 16

This interactive workshop will provide tools and strategies for working with younger children around death, illness, and other painful losses.  Participants will learn how to support and work with young children and their families through the grieving process.

Fostering Resiliency in Children Coping with Death, Illness, and Other Losses

Tuesday, March 29 or Tuesday, August 9

This workshop provides social workers, counselors, teachers, and other professionals with the tools and  strategies to support children through all kinds of loss. Loss will be discussed not only as a crisis, but as an opportunity to develop and strengthen coping skills

that will serve children throughout their lifetime.

Understanding the Challenges

of Loss in Adolescence

Tuesday, April 12 or Thursday, August 4

For most, adolescence is a period of life defined by growth and new beginnings. Yet for many teens it can be a time marred by grief and turmoil. This workshop will explore how teens make sense of and negotiate between these two competing worlds.  Learn tools and strategies that

will help you work with and support teens through all

kinds of loss.

Supporting Emerging Adults Coping with Loss

Tuesday, May 10 or Thursday, August 11

It has been estimated that around 25 percent of traditionally aged college students have experienced

the death of a family member or friend within the last year. This workshop, intended for anyone working with emerging adult populations, will explore the intersection of typical young adult developmental issues and the experience of bereavement.
