Greetings!

Happy Thanksgiving! May your day be full of reminders of the many things great and small we have to be thankful for.

Have any of you Convention attendees matched & given away the gift card Bishop Wolf gave you yet? If so, we are collecting stories for the next issue of RISEN Magazine. Send your tale of giving and thanks to risen@episcopalri.org before December 15th, and perhaps it will inspire others to give freely to those who need it most this Holiday Season.

Convention's Opening Eucharist this year was held at St. Luke's East Greenwich. The sermon was a perfomance by dramatists Friends of the Groom, & the RSCM Choirs from 5 parishes blessed us by leading the worship at the direction of Priscilla Rigg, or "queen mom" as the RSCM'ers call her.

At the end of the service Priscilla was surprised with the award of an honorary doctor of music from St. Dunstan's School, for a lifetime of accomplishment.  I hear we should all now call her Dr. Queen Mom. Congratulations Priscilla! See the photos here.

Blessings,

Convocation 2012

When Friday March 9th & 10th 2012

Where Save the Date, location TBD

Description Working toward the goal of creating a Diocesan mission focus of "Feeding the Hungry," the Mission Task Force has taken the lead role in planning Convocation 2012 with guest Sara Miles, author of "Take This Bread" and "Jesus Freak." Sara brings a unique and refreshing perspective on worship and what it means to be a Christian.

Working out of the Church of Saint Gregory of Nyssa in San Francisco, she has built a thriving food pantry ministry feeding over 1200 families each week. In this brief YouTube video Sara elegantly restates what we all, as Christians, know as our mission in life.

May we share all God's blessings during this Season of Thanksgiving

Each year, as we get closer to Thanksgiving, we take time to reflect on our blessings and remember all the things that we should be grateful for. We are thankful for our health and the health of our families. We are thankful to have a safe place to live, to have enough to eat, money to pay the bills, and fill our cars with gas. We are blessed with the good health to be able to play with our kids and help them do homework. We are grateful that we can go to the doctor when we are not well and have access to medicine. We are fortunate to have time to relax, watch TV, read a book, or spend time with friends.

Well, that's the way it should be. Yet, during this economic crisis and high unemployment, it will be difficult for many to be thankful. Many will not have a job. Many will lose their home or have no place to rent. Many cannot buy food, pay for heat or gas. Many will lose their health benefits or be unable to pay the pharmacist for medicines.

Pledges now total $332,000 and we're hoping to reach our goal of $450,000 before years end. Episcopal Charities is has sent out an appeal to those who have donated in the past year or two, asking them to support this important mission once again in 2011

If you have not made a contribution yet, please be prayerful about what a difference your generosity can do to help so many in Rhode Island whose needs are great. With your gift and a caring heart, we continue to be a link between healers and those needing healing.

Congratulations and many thanks to our donors and volunteers for their support and commitment in healing the gaps, hurts, and brokenness in somany of our neighbors who are living on the edge.

By reaching our goal, we can all know that, as a Diocese, we take a responsible role in this community to give hope and opportunity to those who live in desperate situations.
