Greetings!

100,000 people are still without power in Rhode Island, though the worst of Irene missed us by a hair. I suppose that means many of you will not read this for a few days, but please keep the victims of this storm in your prayers. If you'd like to help someone less fortunate recover their losses, we recommend donating through Episcopal Relief and Development.

To speak of more hopeful things, The Bishop Search is coming along. Keep an eye on their blog for the latest updates and info on how you can be involved in the process.

This weekend is labor day which means the fall program season is just about to begin.  Be sure to save the date for our Program and Budget Hearings, Convention 2012, and the Diocesean 9/11 Evensong at Grace Church for the tenth anniversary of that tragedy. And stop by our facebook page for photos of ECC Summer camp & the RSCM Summer Course

Blessings,
Ruth Meteer

30 hour famine logoEpiscopal Charities 2011

The Episcopal Charities Annual Campaign began on March 13. Speakers from our funded agencies have been visiting parishes throughout the diocese to help parishes kick off the campaign.

We are hearing wonderful reports of their visits to spread the word of how Charities contributions help them to do their work in Rhode Island communities, to assist our neighbors who are in desperate situations.

Funds from Episcopal Charities assist battered women and abused children. Thousands will have food, heat, shelter, healthcare and other basic needs. Elderly and terminally ill receive comfort and a sense of dignity through their last days. Those who suffer from drug addiction receive help toward recovery. Immigrants will be able to read and speak English. Children find fellowship and learn team-building skills at summer camps

We are grateful to our dedicated volunteers who are working hard to encourage people in their parishes to participate in this great work. Congratulations to our donors for their support and commitment to helping people living on the edge.

For parishes that have yet to start, speakers continue to be available. Contact Peggy in the Charities Office if you would like to arrange for a speaker.

2011 Campaign Goal is $450,000. As of today, our volunteers have raised $175,000 -nearly 40% of our goal. Together we can make a difference. All you need is a caring heart!
