Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island Events Newsletter  |   September 10th 2010
Line
Greetings!

The New Christian Formation Catalog has just been posted to the website!  Click here to read the ebook online, download it, or print it for your fridge or bulletin board.

The good news is we had 72 people show up for the first round of Program & Budget Hearings this week! The committee presented 5 proposals to balance next year's budget, offer financial relief to your parishes, and help plan for a healthy future together. There were a wide variety of responses and differing opinions as to which proposal is best.

There are still two more hearings next week (Click here to see the dates) so the "bad" news is just that you have to listen to me talk about these again! Haven't added your voice to the mix yet? with such a diverse response in the first round, the committee still needs to hear what you think.

Parish Delegates, this especially means you,
as it will be your privilege and responsibility to make an educated vote on the budget at Convention. Are your parish's delegates attending? Ask them.

Blessings,
Ruth Meteer
Communications Officer

30 hour famine logoEpiscopal Charities 2010 Annual Campaign Update

By Noel Bassett, Parish Co-Chair, St. Luke's Church, East Greenwich

While working at the Episcopal Charities table one Sunday, one of my friends came up to me with a big smile on her face and jokingly said, "What are you selling now?"

I replied, grinning, "Yah, I know..." Then I started to think of what I really am selling. "I'm selling a warm and dry bed for a homeless person; I'm selling a hot meal for a single mother and her children who can't quite make ends meet; I'm selling emotional and psychological support for troubled youths who are trying to figure out the world. In short, I'm selling support for a hundred plus non profit organizations in Rhode Island which clothe, feed and nurture the less able people of my community."

Please help with any amount of donation in order continue these worthy charities. You may pledge monthly, quarterly or annually by check, credit card or online. If your finances are limited, you may also donate time by becoming a volunteer in many of the organizations. In oh so many ways, we can all "Pass on the Light of Christ."

As of July 22, 2010 our pledges total $290,000.  This is 58% of our $500,000 goal.  Our glass is more than half full!  But we have more to do.   Our parish volunteers and Board members are busy spreading the word about the good works of the agencies supported by Episcopal Charities.  If you have not made a contribution, please help them out.  By helping the volunteers, you will give so much to our neighbors who are in fragile situations.  Needs continue to grow, economic recovery is slow, jobs are scarce and, funding sources are cutting back.

If you're buying what Episcopal Charities, Noel and the volunteers are selling, you can know that together we are continuing a great tradition of being a link between healers and those in need of healing.  And, you'll feel good!
