Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island Events Newsletter  |   May 27th, 2010

Greetings!

Things around the Diocesan House have been busy as usual this time of year, in preperation for the summer months which take many of us on pilgrimages, sabbaticals, and (fingers crossed) vacations.

Here are a few highlights of recent events:

This past weekend the Cathedral of St. John was packed as Bishop Wolf ordained Joyce T. Thorne and Patrick Greene to the Sacred Order of Deacons. You can view the photos online here.

On the 20th of May, thirty Parish Administrators from across the diocese met for fun, food, conversation with colleagues, and a tour of St. Peter's By-the-Sea in Narragansett. View the pictures here.

The Mission Task Force's listening gatherings have all passed. If you missed them, don't fret. You can still help form the future of our diocese by joining the discussion online at the Mission Task Force Facebook group

Lastly, Don't forget, This year the Congregational Development Commission has extended the deadline for applications for grants through June 1, 2010.  For application information visit their page on the website, or call Betsy Fornal at 274-4500 x225.

Blessings,

30 hour famine logoEpiscopal Charities 2010 Annual Campaign Update

Our brochure asks, "Where will 2010 take us?" What will your answer be?

Nearly half way there!

The Episcopal Charities annual campaign has officially been underway since March 7th and making progress.  Pledges now total $245,477, which is behind this time last year, but still an encouraging step forward toward our goal of raising $500,000.  By reaching this goal, we can all know that, as a Diocese, we can give hope and opportunity to those who live in desperate situations.

Our volunteers are working hard to make the Episcopal Charities mission visible.
For parishes that have not yet had an inspiring speaker, speakers continue to be available.  Contact Peggy in the Charities office if you would like to arrange for a speaker.

Parishes are doing a variety of things to raise money.  St. Luke's Pawtucket Sunday School had a bake sale and raised $221.  Thank you, St. Luke's!  Another parish is planning a dinner with proceeds going to support Charities.  The recent tour by Trinity Church's Ministry of the Arts, performing the American Songbook, raised $3,700.  Feel free to be creative in your efforts.  Let us know; we will be happy to share your ideas and successes with other parishes.

If you have not made a contribution yet, please be prayerful about what a difference your    generosity can make to so many in Rhode Island whose needs are great.

We thank your donors and volunteers for all their great work!
