Dr. William Kondrath, offers church and agency leaders an approach for creatively addressing and resolving conflict in their church or organization. "By integrating creativity into the course, we begin to have a "whole health" approach to interventions, rather than only dealing with problems," says Kondrath. "The place where we start is: What would a church look like, what would you see happening, if creativity-rather than liturgy or education or social justice is what characterized your church? What would happen if we took Genesis seriously? We are created in the image of God-and "in the beginning" God is creator." Students will learn systems theory, methods for analyzing and intervening in congregations and agencies, and methods for addressing conflict creatively. The course will have a strong practical component with case studies and "lab" experiences. People will be invited not only to think outside the box, but to feel and act in ways that foster their own growth and the learning of the whole group. Every gift means that our Rhode Island neighbors are getting the help they need.
Your Episcopal Charities Dollars at Work The mission of theEast Bay Coalition for the Homeless (EBCH) is to house homeless East Bay families with children and provide them with the support, skills and resources needed to become self-reliant. Since 1989, EBCH has been the only program in the East Bay providing supportive housing by operating twelve apartment units in East Providence, Warren and Bristol. The number of homeless families continues to increase in Rhode Island due to the serious lack of affordable housing. The linkage between emergency shelter and the community-based and governmental services and resources that are often fragmented, may be difficult to access or simply not available to homeless families trying to attain stability and independence in permanent housing. This program facilitates the move into permanent housing and then engages the newly housed family in progressive set of individualized case management activities and interventions as they move toward improved social and economic well being. With a case manger, needs are assessed and each family then devises a plan of action, which may include job training, continuing education, counseling, substance abuse prevention, parenting classes, child care or other supportive services as needed. Re-establishing good credit and learning how to manage a budget are among the goals set for each family. For more information, please contact: Diane Smith, Director, 100 Bullocks Point Avenue, Riverside, RI, 02915.
